Garage DIY bottom end rebuild of my 24v second gen Cummins. This will be going into my 2008 ford super duty Fummins. This is the first diesel I have ever built so I'm learning as I go.

Very helpful! Just bought a bus with this motor and debating how much to dig into it. I appreciate the detail you include. The right amount without tangents! Thanks!

@@ProjectsPat can you share how much the machine shop charges were for you? I know it will vary, just looking for ballpark.

@@fo4imtippin I just had them clean it and the cylinders honed for like 150 or so(really I could have done that). I measured all the clearances. Everything was still in spec.

Quick question for you. What did you do to the block did you hone it or anything like that? The crank did you cut it down or did you just have it polished?

For the wear sleeve on the crank I always take a board like you do get it started, then I take the crank pully and suck the pully in till its flush. But what you did works just as well. Built way too many of these (truck pulls lol) great job on the first build though hope she turns that ford into something now!

@@ProjectsPat are you going to head stud it? Do injectors or any fancy upgrades?

@@thirteenfox7885 yes. I put some studs in and shopping for injectors now. I'm thinking 120hp over. I have a reground cam also. When cutting my rings I was finding mixed specs. I decided on top- .017, int- .0445, and oil- .0205. I hope those will be good gaps. I kind of averaged the different specs

@@ProjectsPat 120s will be noticeable gains. What are you running for air going to it? Factory hx35? Be sure to grab you that aftermarket lift pump if you havent! Them VP44 aren't cheap. I got a 2000 with 55k on it and still replaced the pump due to not trusting previous owner lol played it smart. Found the pump tapped into and an old comp box harness inside the dash behind the steering wheel....he also had factory Carter lift pump on it as well. Can't wait to check out the other videos!

You always measure your crank oil clearance dry fyi, should not have put the assembly lube on until final.

Thanks. So maybe I have a tad bit more then.

@@ProjectsPat probably more like 3.5 to 5 thou, not the end of the world but definitely want to keep the engine away from too much timing.
