@Horsetorques Diesel can I run a compression test by just rebolting the head back down on my 5.9 common rail? I've purchased the miller injector tool, but was hoping I wouldn't have to reassemble all the rocker arms etc. Just leave all the valves closed... Any advice would be great.

I know you say that this isn't the proper way to do this and that the engine should come out and get machined by a professional machine shop but a lot of folks have a hurt engine like this and maybe they are just trying to buy some time to save up for the expensive repairs so it's great to know that this can be done over a weekend in your driveway and actually yield decent results if done carefully. Nice job and thanks for showing.

great vid man, gotta love how jobs go fix something to only snowball to fixing like 4 other things, then on top of fix this and replace this while open and in there, lol. I just currently redid all my connecting rod bearings and main bearings new oil pump, water pump, thermostat, etc sens, timing chain kit, in frame on my 2001 v10 ram 2500. I was chasing a low idle oil pressure problem. great explanation on showing rings install, like this video. always like to learn and see others work and how they think and process mechanics and fixing things.

And while it may not be the perfect way to repair it, this may help someone get some extra life out of their engine before going for the full rebuild. Ok so I know this is not the "correct" way to remedy that problem but I had a similar problem bad injector #6 ihave no gouging in my cylinder like that but up twords the top of cylinder maybe around where tge 2nd compression ring and the oil ring would stop at t.d.c. there is a slight lips like its minimal is my block salvageable its an 05. Also for some reason all 4 valves slapped the piston left a small dent make from each valve why would that happen o and knicked one of the seats

Do you worry about the orientation of the rings before you install the piston? I know you mention the 180° turn on the Oiler I was just curious if you oriented them before the final install, also did you check all your clearances after the hones, side clearance on rods and also piston protrusion, I'm Currently rebuildingy 99, 5.9, 24 valve and I'm getting caught up with technical things as such mentioned, I blew my thrush bearing on my #6 main bearing, currently replaced and plastigage everything on the main bairings, (very tiresome),#5 piston was toast. Currently doing it on the cheap, using a interstate mcbees inframe kit. This video gave me the courage and know how just thought I'd like yalls input. Thanks in advance.
