So many project ideas for that R2.8 and no income to pay for it.

So nice. Finally a small diesel in the US that can be bought by the general public. I've been looking in overseas markets to import a diesel but getting parts would have been a nightmare or applying a bobcat diesel but this makes it so easy! Thank you Cummins!

I've wanted to order this engine for a year now but I still have not seen someone complete a Land Rover where they are able to keep the functions like Traction Control, ABS, Hill Decent all working with the ECU and TCU. If I am wrong then I hope someone points me to where I can see a video and to where someone sells everything you need, without having to buy a 6 speed sequential GM transmission as nice as they may be. By the time you buy both the engine, transmission, all the adapters and accessories if you go with the 6 speed it will cost around $20K and I have not seen a R2.8 in a Discovery with that gearbox operating yet, only an LS conversion.

That's the key... keeping the D2/P38 BCM happy and functioning with a engine swap. I haven't seen anyone actually accomplish it. There a few claims and articles...but like this video...a lot of hype with out any real world information. Having it function like a stock truck but w a better power plant is critical to this whole idea. I'm surprised at the lack of information/bragging especially considering the price tag. You'd think youtube would be full of videos of the company bragging about how good it works....
@bp97494 жыл бұрын
@@empirecases4128 yea the tinker guy...is really awesome...but 1. I don't really count him because he did a 4bt and completely changed everything about the truck. I left a comment on one of his videos and he straight up said he plans to do his own relay board version of the BCM and bypass it completely. So to me that's a no go. 2. The Hooligan build is dead in the water...right when he was supposed to get it running/driving. Zero episodes since. Even if he does...the earlier model D1 doesn't have the same type of BCM as the D2. With out the Lucas/Bosch system working (or at least faking it) the entire truck is a shell not worth driving. No power anything. No ABS or traction control. No AC. So it's annoying when we see a D2 rolling down a road for one of these shots and see ZERO information about how it was done.

I would love do a diesel swap for my 2000 Jeep wj, give it new life. My questions are.....who does this kind of work in NC. I'm in the RDU area, and the only shop I see is Rude's Diesel off of 85. Will this engine bolt right up to the stock transmission, and will I have to beef the transmission up to handle the tq? Thanks.

I just repowered mine with the LS 5.3 instead, after a year of messing around with it, this cummins just isn't the right choice, mostly because transmission options but for a variety of other ones too. Go back to gear driven manual setups like a 4BT and we'll buy it, we don't want to see chains that have to be replaced. Oh and don't make it in China, we don't want to pay serious money for junk. Almost what we wanted Cummins....almost. I had to swap a GM 5.3 LM4 into my discovery 2 but I'd have loved a cummins if you had made it worth while.

I love this engine, but at $10K CAD just for the engine, you won't have many customers. A 4BT is alot cheaper. This is before buying mounts, driveshafts, wiring, cooling components, exhaust fab work, bellhousing, clutch, etc...This is easily a $20K swaps
@Kyle-rk8bw3 жыл бұрын
Not really. I’m doing a 4bt build right now and I’ll have almost 10k into it by the time I’m done and it’s not a brand new motor. I think 10k is pretty reasonable for a brand new motor

Matt Goins put a bigger engine their is several options or regear that's an option most never consider they just run their mouth and wanna big engine kinda throws off the little dick image towards others, but seriously regear if the HP or torque numbers ain't what your looking for that's how the 20r and 22r Toyota guys do it
