Brilliant! This was the very first football match I ever saw, albeit on the telly, at the age of seven. I fell in love with The Baggies that day and 70 years on I remain a Proud Supporter! COYB!!

I remember seeing a photo of the WBA goalie turning his back as Allen took the penalty kick.

If you look, he was devastated by the way he played that day. Yet there's one of those'every touch' videos here for this match and he looked fine to me

Up the Baggies. But we are from the Midlands not the North.

Comical southern mentality, north of the Watford Gap = 100% 'The North'

Nice to see a British soldier free to wear his uniform in public in London in those days , how times have changed.

preston2-3 West Bromwich Albion?not actually the last time that West Bromwich Albion won the fa cup.they beat Everton to win the 1968 fa cup final 1-0?(Jeff Astley?)imagine west brom winning a trophy these days!apparently, west brom took part in the "football world cup final"!in 1888 ?or so,they went up to Scotland to play Renton?Renton won 4-1? not 1-0 as I believed for centuries.I believe.long before football was established worldwide!

Que bueno era el extremo número 7 ya en aquellos tiempos, rápido y hábil.

As usual, you don't get to see the lead-up play to a crucial incident - in this case the pass to the man apparently yards offside who went on to score. (What matters - and isn't shown - is where he was when the ball left the other guy's boot.)

I take my hat off to any man who could play with a shirt 👕 shorts socks shinpads and wellingtons weighing in at 4 stones surplass weight 🤔 😅

Looking at this game now, after all these years, WBA should have had 3 penalties, not one, if var was used then, instead of relying on the ref.

So much for all the old codgers who claim you never saw players hugging and kissing and arguing with the Ref in "the good old days!"

1954, British announcer calls the game the "highlight of the year's SOCCER season." See, we Americans are right.

It is an unpopular term among supporters in Britain (where the word originates) cos it was used by middle class people who didn’t play or watch the game. Until recent times it was an overwhelmingly working class sport. The middle classes played rugby (union) except in South Wales where it was the sort of the working classes. Rugby League was and is played in the North of England and remains largely working class. It’s all about class in Britain although things have improved greatly in my lifetime.
