I made one last year but did not have an electric whisk.. took absolutely ages. I’m sure my dad enjoyed being in the background watching me and my aching arms - all knowing there was a Kitchen Aid hand whisk waiting for me under the tree!

Just wanted to let ya’ll know that I made this on Christmas Eve this year. The instructions are perfect. A little stressful (I was certain it was going to stick to the tea towel, but it didn’t). The cake was a MAJOR hit with my family. So good, so light. Definitely adding this recipe to the cookbook. Highly recommend.

Made it again this year. My mom was asking me all year long to make it again, but I resisted because I wanted it to be a Christmas treat; like something to look forward to. Made it on Christmas Eve again this year and it was a hit (again). Such a great recipe - Incredible cake! See you again next year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!

I’ve made one of these every year since I was 8 years old as a Christmas tradition and it’s so fun! I made this for Christmas Eve following exactly minus the brandy. It was a hit with everyone, not too sweet, very moist, and turned out very pretty. I added meringue mushroom and sugared rosemary and cranberries for decorations. Also topped with some crushed candy cane. Thank you for saving me with success.

Made this recently, this was absolutely amazing! Definitely will make it again but two things I would do are 1. Make a little bit more of the cream filling - my log was a little bit flat 2. Serve the cake in room temperature, the ganache taste the best when it just start to melt Thank you so much for the recipe again !

Just made this after looking high and low for the perfect recipe. It is BOMB! Came out just like shown, and it didn't crack. The cognac in the chantilly absolutely takes it up a notch, so do not skip that part. Miam!!! Merry Christmas everyone.

My boyfriend doesn't like the taste of alcohol (and most of his family doesn't like hard alcohol like a good cognac), so last Christmas I filled mine with a whipped salted caramel buttercream and it was AMAZING. I can never go back, but the cognac Chantilly is very good.

Ridiculously delicious!! I did a dry run a few days before Christmas since I have not baked a lot in years!I learned a lot. On the second cake I used kitchen aid with the whisk attachment for all three mixings. Everything set up perfectly. I whipped up that ganache so it would be stiff enough to not have the fondant decoration not sink through it. Worked! It held the stiff little lines well to make it look like a tree. Filling is decadent and deliciously light. I used some vanilla paste to have some tiny vanilla bean flecks in the cream. The one challenge is the cake. The first try was an unmitigated disaster! I stuck like glue to the towel and I had to scrape bit off and assemble from that. Second try was much better and I used parchment paper instead with a lot of frosting sugar. What I did notice both times is that the weight of rolling it causes the cake to sort of flatten out a bit. Still delicious but neither held a round log form. Compressed itself to oval. Still gorgeous and delicious.

@alexisrieck99284 жыл бұрын
I didn't write the recipe, but with something like this you can't just take out the cocoa and/or chocolate because baking is a balanced science and there is likely a key reaction that makes the cocoa or chocolate vital. I'd recommend looking up a vanilla yule log recipe if you want to try making a vanilla yule log.

It's not a Swiss roll. In the UK we have Swiss rolls as well, but they are not yule logs. Yule logs are shaped the same way as a Swiss roll, but are generally only made at Christmas time.
