Man I wish I could hire you to fix my shower in my master bath on our new build. There are so many things that are wrong and it’s already leaking after only 5 months. I guarantee there was no attention to detail and no dedication to quality work. Now I got a big headache and problem. Your videos help to educate me as a homeowner to know what to ask check for…thank you!

Saul, I love it how you show us your solutions to problems. It keeps me coming back! In this case, since the customer is getting ALL the tile installed by you, why don’t they choose the “same” tile for the Shower Base? Why choose that Mosaic tile? I don’t get it? If the customer wants a “transition” between the Shower Base and the rest, why don’t they choose another colour or pattern like the rest? Isn’t that a better idea? What’s the drawback? IDK, to me that mosaic tile screams “old school”.

Customers have a vision of how they want their interiors to look. Your ideas are not better or worse, the only drawback is Sal's client probably wouldn't appreciate you telling them their choice of tile is a "bad idea". 🙂

Large tiles in a shower are not always a good idea, yes they look good and have a seamless look, but they can also be slippery when wet. Many people opt for the safety factor that a mosaic tile gives because the numerous grout lines give traction and grip.

Thanks mate, what a great technique membrane on the mosaics. Wish I had known this a couple weeks ago when I did a very similar thing.

I’ve been using membrane on mosaics for wall applications for a few years, but never thought of it on certain floor applications 🤔

nice! so I did not know it was ok to pre-collapse the ridges of the thinset. So this reduces squishthru cleanup?
@antman7431
@antman7431 3 ай бұрын
Yes it reduces squishthru and also gives the mosaic tile a more uniform surface to adhere to, so that there is an equal amount of thinset under each tile

Yes, he also mentioned he's using a euro trowel which is normally for large format tile and has some very high ridges. I believe he's doing that to control the thickness of the mud bed. If you have a slightly thicker bed you have more ability to smooth out the irregularities in the substrate as well as more space to embed the tile. What Sal said at the end says it all, they are always hard.

Hi Sal, no one else has done a clear vid on installing a Curb Sill as it relates to the wall tile. For example I have subway tile on my walls and am getting ready to install a marble sill on my Schluter curb. Some say notch the sill so the wall tile will be behind it but it will also overhand the sill inline with the sill itself. Others do their whole wall and then just cut the sill 1/8” short on each which is uglier imo and may not drain as well. I really value your opinion and methods, would you mind responding on how to go about it or work in more specific demonstration and be the first KZbinr to do so? Thanks.

I always do sill first and then cut the tile around it, much cleaner look, and there is no direct path for water to go straight down a joint. However if the shower is built properly and waterproofed properly does not really matter. This video might help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmKtc6Kprth6b7M

Did you do anything for first row of tile coming after the backerboard, or the row of tile on the sheet that had no backerboard?? Just curious if it will be in contact with the thinset??
