I totally agree with you- it’s good to see what it really takes to prep a piece before paint - so many furniture painters make the prep part seem so easy but I feel it’s the hardest part sometimes- especially when you need to do repairs- I appreciate this video so much for the reality of it.

@@jayrankowitz3829 what kind of repair work needs to be done, and are those repairs within your area of expertise! That will make all the difference. If you don’t feel up to those repairs, paint is the answer! It’s only paint, and can be removed should you learn the repairs! I once had a Martha Washington sewing cabinet that bragged about solid mahogany on the tag! I was so excited until I stripped it and every board was a different color of mahogany and in no order that would make it appealing. I finally managed to stain the top so that it wasn’t too mismatched but had to give up and paint the body! Still love it!

There was a part of me that cried when you painted that gorgeous wood, but I'm glad you saved it none the less. You did it right, so it can be refinished in the future, and it would have been lost forever without you.

I appreciate the sustainable idea so much of salvaging old discarded furniture made of solid wood instead of buying new cheap Ikea furniture. I'm not exactly a fan of painted furniture, but because of the condition of this sideboard and the dated granny style, the decision is particularly convincing especially because of the classic color choice. The result is very beautiful. The furniture shines in new splendor and provides plenty of storage space, for example for crockery.
