I use to work for McDonald's in the early 90's. Late night my manager would throw out a trash bag of burgers, fries, salads. So after work when everyone went home. I'd go and grab them large trash bags and feed the homeless at a park. The smiles on there faces were priceless.

Many stores DO donate to local food pantries or other charities. There are logistics issues with getting the donated food to the pantries. Some charities will pick up the donated stuff from the stores. But, if a store is clearing out their freezers of "soon-to-expire" stuff at 3:00 in the afternoon, and there's no way to get it to a food bank at 3:00 in the afternoon, it goes in the trash.

When I worked in a large Mall in Maryland The stores would throw away TONS of stuff….. books, shoes, clothing etc. They found out that we were taking the shoes and books and started to spray paint or cut the shoes and rip the front pages off the books ! It's literally legal in every state but some cities do have an ordinance against it. You just can't go in one that has no dumpster diving/no trespassing or locks. I can't believe there are not more comments with this tone. It's definitely important and shouldn't be overlooked. I certainly can't speak for every grocery store, but the one I work for only disposes of items that have been recalled, expired, or damaged in a way that affects the product (for instance, if a container of laundry detergent leaked onto a case of crackers, it is no longer safe to eat). Otherwise, close dated items or damaged (but safe to consume or use) products are sold at a discount. We also discount close dated bakery items and donate those as well. I completely understand why some people may dumpster dive, but I also worry that they do not consider the risks. Exposure to diseases and illnesses, ones that would outweigh the benefits of saving waste, donating, getting items for free, etc. Cause they could be lifelong or even deadly. The same items they are picking out are alongside bathroom trash, canned trash, etc. Jumping in freely with no protective gear on. No gloves, pants, etc. You have no idea if there's broken glass, blood, feces, or anything else that may be a biohazard. Those dumpsters do not get cleaned. If you get cut, you're going to get sick. Taking the food and drinks thinking they are getting thrown out for no good reason...believe me it was thrown out for one. They are no longer safe to consume. Maybe the coolers went out, the food got thawed, and it is no longer safe. Perhaps there was a recall. The possibilities are endless. It's not worth the risk, in my opinion. Then, to see that they are donating these items to people who unknowingly do not realize they are coming from soaked and dirty dumpsters. People could literally die from what they donate. The stores do not want to be responsible or reliable for people getting hurt and/or sick from the dumpsters. That is why they attempt to stop them. Most of them have signage posted saying it's private property. So why get nasty with people doing their jobs and following company policy? If you're going to dumpster dive. At least do it responsibly. Be safe. Wear protection. Do your research on products to ensure they haven't been recalled. Inspect the product/boxes to be sure there wasn't chemical contamination. It's not worth your life or someone else's.

That manager was expecting someone else to pick up a bunch of that stuff.....It was put into the dumpster with care. 😂😂

I wouldn’t care less if I was the manager. I would have asked for her number to let her know when I’m getting ready to dump some stuff smh

Dumpster Shopping- it’s WAY better than spending money on the stuff! I dig it when they leave food by the dumpster. Thats very considerate ❤ I never found this amount of stuff when I used to dumpster dive??? What Happened?!😮

It would be really nice if you'd let viewers like myself know you're OK and still DD. It's been so long I had given up. I've left messages asking in the past and never been answered. How's your youngest doing?

Though it doesn't seem like it, those areas ARE private property and it is trespassing whether there are signs or not, whether the store is open or closed, so that's what can get you in trouble. It's the trespass.

It is not trespassing until told to leave and refusing to do so.

@@cattygirl218 With what you said it would required no trespassing signs. Otherwise it is not trespassing until told to leave and refusing to do so.

@@cattygirl218 Until told to leave, the person has permission to be there, unless the person has the intent to cause a disturbance or obstruct business. The operator operates the business with the knowledge they are giving people implicit consent to be there under normal operations.

Well when these dumpster dolts find themselves in legal trouble that could cost them $$ in legal fees possible jail time and a criminal record is it worth it?
