Let me give you a quick rundown of the point in my day I am at and just watched this. I flew for four hours in the morning then ferried the plane from Midland to Odessa to drop it at mx. I hopped into another 182 to fly from Odessa to Colorado Springs and took off. After reaching cruise at 6,500 I noticed my oil pressure drop to 22 psi. I decided to turn back and check it. At about a 4 mile final the electrical system quit. I didn’t adjust fast enough for a no flap landing and had to go around NORDO at a busy nontowered airport. I have to be in Colorado tonight for Air Force Reserve in the morning. So now I’m waiting on a Southwest flight. The 69 line in this video made me absolutely crack up. It put me in a better mood and a place where I’m ready to just roll with whatever else happens today. Thanks Trent!

The Über-Flug-Nerd quotient of this video is so off the charts it makes me giggle and applaud. Hats off to you, Trent. You're now my favorite channel. I hope you guys can make some extra flight cash by reconditioning tires for others. Extend your tire rotisserie to accommodate four or eight tires at a time and make the most of your setup for each step. Bang 'em out, make bank.

Great video. Couldn't you make a Kevlar cover for the tire? The cover would be laced up tightly on the tire and provide protection from rocks and such. You guys don't land as fast as larger planes so I think it would hold up. Just a thought.

Have you thought of inside cutting a thick inner tube the right size and popping it over the tire and then a little tire vulcanizing... even X2 for thickness ??? Just a crazy idea I would do lol
@sumrica6 жыл бұрын
My sense of it is, this process is going to work. The bond of the Flexane to the tire will hold...if the primer does what it's supposed to do. I'm hoping the Flexane holds up to the tread abrasion for you.

There's also one more (involved) trick available, you get the appropriate inner tube for such a tire, a scrub brush, a grate with fine teeth (if you buy fresh nutmeg, they usually come with the perfect grate) the best contact cement you can buy in your area, a very fine bristle painter's brush (width is up to choice), and a timer. step 1, clean, clean everything like you want to eat from it. step 2, inflate the tube inside the tire (without hub) and make sure you've seated it perfectly inside step 3, with a silver pen, mark an outline of the peak that the inner tube has out of the tire's skirt. step 4, deflate, reinflate partially and slide tube on to something to keep it off the ground, make sure you have something that keeps the tire rigidly in place, but not enough to deform it. step 5, coat inside of tire, outside of tube, to the silver pen, wait prescribed amount of time, double coat, wait prescribed amount of time. step 6. deflate tube, and very carefully (you can use paper to "hide" what you're not working on, as the glue on stick to it) insert the tube in the tire, making sure you've touched silver line to the skirt of the tire. step 7, once you've done that all around, and you're happy with the result on both sides, inflate to make sure it's well seated, deflate, one last time, and then with a pair of scissors, cut to the marked line, just a bit bellow it. step 8. using a roller make sure there's no air bubbles whilst you still can move the cut tube around (you've about 20 minutes or so with most glues) step 9, put on rim, inflate, and let pressure do the work for you. This will ensure you've got even more resistance to puncture, on a thinned, old tire, this is an actual second lease at life. I know this method from tractor tires that have enough gape in cracks, that you can stick your pinkie and touch that tube inside. If you're lucky AF and manage to find a really thick tube, say 4 mm like they used to have back in the day, you're golden.
@morganbeasley2 жыл бұрын
bushwheels are tubeless, they are a sealed unit. You would have to do this process on the outside somehow, you have to be jus the right size tube that stretched over, might be workable.

The rotisserie can be made on the cheap with wood, the idea is to have a rotation motion. You can source all your parts from a trashed (important) rotisserie oven, some, even come with an actual speed setting on them. So all in all, you could build the whole jig for say 20, 30 bucks and a beer to your local trash yard (if they haven't wizened up to people getting parts for cheap from them).
