I grew up playing golf alongside Jordan Spieth. I emulated his chipping method - like Phil, Jordan gets pretty steep in the short game and tries to cover the ball. I never mastered it, and it gave me significant problems. Then I came across Dan and his teaching methods. Life changing. Softened everything up. Thank you. ❤
@stephenpickering33004 ай бұрын
Jordon amd Phil are outliers who are amazing at controlling their low point which results in great contact. Us mere mortals and most tour pros don't have that ability and need to use the bounce better for a larger margin of error

+1 golfer who’s had the chipping woes for about 8 years now ever since an old coach tried to get me chipping like Jason Day. Dan you’ve transformed my chipping - chipping like I did when I was a junior. Not afraid to use the wrists!! Thanks Dan, Thanks KZbin!
@pjpredhomme76994 ай бұрын
I am curious - you say you ran into trouble trying to emulate Jason Day - which I assume you mean completely dead hands - no wrist hinging . That in itself would not create the problem you describe especially if you are as good of a player as you are . do you think it might be grip pressure . He does not emphasis much in the way of hinging - he certainly does not require your hands to be as inactive as Jason Day . If you watch JD closely - he is very fundamentally sound and he controls the speed of the club with his turn - pretty much exactly like Dan G says.
@Micker3754 ай бұрын
@@pjpredhomme7699 hey thanks for the comment. Let me start off by saying I think JD has a fantastic short game - he has mastered that action - which is little or no wrist hinge, ball forward, certain attack angle but the key being the fact he moves his body in the right way and turns beautifully. For his style to work there is a lot that needs to work in sync. I guess I never mastered all aspects which meant I was very inconsistent, it always felt like hard work and one or two things technically where off which lead to thins and chunks - once that happens then your confidence goes - yips. My back swing also became very short because I wasn’t really breaking my wrists or turning correctly. Which led to handle lean and thus thins and chunks! As a kid I didn’t know anything other than chipping with your wrists - and I was great, didn’t think about anything. My bunker play is great and always has been - because again bunker play is all wrists and you don’t have to be perfect with the strike. My hands are active through the ball (or at least feel active) with my irons and driver and I find it easier now having them active with chipping - at least with the releases anyway!

After 6 years of yips and almost giving up golf, Dan you’ve cured the Y….. Dale Hayes was I think 3 years European tour champion, he got the Y……. and it killed his career. Equipment with grinds and bounce certain helps our game. I now call is yes not Y……. as problem is solved. Thanks from an old codger that’s been playing for 50 years. Hey Dan, how do you figure out how hard to hit a shot around the greens? Is it just practice and experience or is it something you can work on with a drill of some kind? My problem is distance control, not so much the shot itself. Thanks :)

I focus on a Landing Target when I Practice Release 2 and 3 at the Range. A Ball sitting in the Grass, a different colored Spot, a Shadow. I mix it up, 2 or 3 Balls and then switch Target. I Practice on mats that have a little give, so I will sometimes use a short Tee that raises the Ball about 2 Grooves above the Mat for Release 3.
