Great tips! I can't wait to get out and practice with excitement and take what i've learned from this only to chunk or skull the ball 🤪

Been struggling with short game pitches and chips since i came back to the game after coaching my kids in football footy for 8yrs or so. Yips came as I started improving and getting my handicap under 10. Pressure to play well and there they crept. The thumbs off really softened my grip pressure. Dan - you really are the best. Now to try to apply to regular rounds and then comps. All the best from the U.S.

I got so bad at chipping I nearly packed in golf, Its incredibly frustrating. Especially off different type grasses. This gives me hope.

This was a great session, I saw it on Dan's YT. Tips fix your yips, like sips fix John Daly's. :) Keep up the great work on tour Inci - the game looks solid.

This takes a lot of practice. From that lie I would putt more consistently. Even with his great technique the lie has innumerable variables. Love Dan Grieve.

Well, i would agree that the left arm should connect against the left side, in the follow thru, with the longer shots you play, towards the end of the video. But, the two shot types you hit are completely different. The first, by the side of the green, is a chip shot. The second, from further away from the green, is a pitch shot. And, a chip shot and a pitch shot cannot be played in the same way. And, whilst the left arm should connect with with the left side side, in the follow thru, when playing a pitch shot, it should not actively be connected with the left side. The left hand presses against the left side of the shaft, thru the shot; and, this connects the left arm against the left side. And, you can prove this to yourself, quite simply, by pressing your left hand against the handle, when you take your grip at address. You will find that your arm presses against your left side. But, there is no real need to consciously focus on pressing your left hand against the club, thru the shot, with a pitch shot. The main focus is on how the club starts down. And, it starts down by pressing the index finger side of the left hand against the right hand. And, when a player does this their left hand will press against the handle, thru the shot. I should say that everything Dan tells you about how to play a chip shot is incorrect. And, you certainly shouldn't be using the "bounce of the club" with a chip shot. And, nor should you be using a club with bounce on it. In Bobby Jones' instructional video he uses a mashie and a mashie niblick to chip with. And, it is fair to say he could chip. In Lee Trevino's video he tells us to hold the club with our left hand when we take our grip. This helps to ensure that our hands are in front of the ball, at address; and, that we make a crisp contact with the ball. And, if we make a crisp contact with the ball, when playing a chip shot, the arms won't extend thru. I like to grip the club lightly, when i place my hands on the club; and, then raise my position, to look up at the target. The weight of the clubhead then presses the handle up against the heel pad of my left hand. This raises the position of my hands, slighty. And, it, also presses my hands forwards. And, as Lee Trevino tell us we should "flat wrist" the shot. One of Dan's videos appeared on my twitter. I didn't know him from Adam; but, i clicked on it, anyway. In the video he teaches an amateur golfer; and, he goes into a myriad of deatail with regard to how the said amateur golfer should/shouldn't chip etc. but, looking at the video, it was very clear to see that the said amateur golfer had his eyeline way above the ball. So, i just simply enquired: "But, where is his eyeline"? Blocked. I had my first golf lesson in the 1960's. So, you may not be able to imagine what my thoughts were.

All incredibly helpful and insightful but it's all well and good practicing hitting chip shots and pitch shots on pristine turf, without a blade of grass out of place. The reality for most is they're playing shots from uneven, often poor, lies in and around the greens, which makes it a lot more difficult to play crisp shots. Just a thought..

Short game is all about putting the hours in. Sure, techniques matter a lot but you could have a lesson like this and don’t go out and chip everyday for an hour or so you won’t reach your max potential. Plus.. spending an hour or so a day just hitting chips and lobs is s good for your mental health!

Surprised to see the advice to put more weight on the right foot, Padraig H says the opposite? Putting almost all of my weight on my left foot and having the ball opposite my left heel is helping me to avoid chunks.
