Excellent video, Martin. I really like the simplicity of your method and the mill/shredder looks great! Good job!

I use an electric food processor to shred my leaves ,like you I roll them into a tube , I use the vegetable cutting attachment , cuts it very finely for rolling tobacco

Great! Fermenting or flue curing is really necessary for hookah tobacco where you don't want the taste of the tobacco itself? You add flavour mixtures. I can buy Virginia leaf's however they are not fermtented nor flue cured. I need to boil them before mixing with flavours however I am unsure if flue curing is necessary (also in terms of ammonia, not sure if it disappears while boiling also)

Thanks Martin, great tips regarding curing can you tell me where you got your mill (cutting device) from?

Chop the stems up and use them in the soil your growing in. or boil them up into brown water put into a spray bottle and use it on the greens of other plants to prevent bugs eating everything up.
@mpvg17 жыл бұрын
Oh yes! Also useful in a chicken overnight place against the bugs.

Hello, Martin, this system you used to ferment tobacco, is a common pot, did you make it? or was purchased. If you did it, can you show or send the schematic? thanks

How important is this step to the tobacco process
@mpvg17 жыл бұрын
Very important, it gives the tobacco a much nicer taste and aroma.

@@TheFredkentwhat about using a rice cooker to ferment the leaves?
@j.olacio52985 жыл бұрын
@@TheFredkent the longest I've used it was 2 weeks to make black garlic. You leave it on warm and it stays at a steady temperature.

HI Martin, just a quick question, I have tried this, not exactly the way you did it, my leaves were already de-stemmed before i cooked them, what I did was cook the leaves in a slow cooker or croc pot if you like. The leaves sat in a collander which then sat over the pot with water in it, the temperature was average 50c. The collander has holes in the bottom so there was air flow and moisture from the pot to the leaves, so, after 3 days I dried out some of the cooked tobacco it it still tastes bitter, I haven't flavoured it or anything, this is just a mixed batch of Golden Virginia and Yellow Twist leaves, any ideas?
@mpvg17 жыл бұрын
Yes I think so. If you cook the leaves, all bacteria you need to ferment the leaves are death. They are responsabele for the proces. So don't cook them, and use mono glycerine afterwards to preserve the leaves agains fungus grow. It will burn better, and stays humid. Succes.
@paulchambers8267 жыл бұрын
Hi again Martin, thanks for the reply, much appreciated. The leaves were not cooked as such, more or less what you did yourself, the leaves sat in a collander, similar to what you would drain pasta in with holes in it, the collander sat on top of the slow cooker which had water in it so the heat and steam from the pot went through the bottom of the collander and then to the leaves themselves, the temperature was around 50c. Do you think I need to keep them in for longer?
@mpvg17 жыл бұрын
I always use 3 days, if longer they get easy to tear apart. Did you measure the temperature between the leaves? must be 50 - 55 Celsius. Then it should work. The leaves must be soaking wet. Check the temperature.

#Martin van Gijn how do you add the flavours and what you use for it?
@mpvg19 жыл бұрын
+1990fssm I don't use any flavors, but mixing the different leaves of the different plants. Example 50% Burley - 50% Virginia. Mid strong. 30% Burley - 70% Virginia light. And 33% Burley, 33% Virginia, 33% Orient wil give a mid aromatic blend. Don't forget to at the glycerine (mono) otherwise it wil be get full of fungus in day's.

Where did you get your shredding machine? Love your technique! Your slim pointy long leaves could be of the Little Dutch variety or perhaps Del Gold Good Video thanks for the alternative to the fermentation process and more importantly re-creating a dark shag style smoke. Happy Days

@mpvg19 жыл бұрын
Succes!
@bluesboydude9 жыл бұрын
@bluesboydude9 жыл бұрын
@mpvg19 жыл бұрын
