Great stuff, Alex! That Majestic radio is a Canadain model and, I believe, pretty rare. It was a higher end set from about 1938. A real beauty. A word of caution, don't plug it in even with a new power cord (or any vintage electronics, for that matter). There are components in the power supply that nearly always fail due to age and can short. This can damage other nearly non-obtainable components and render the radio practically worthless. If possible, locate a radio collector in your area who can inspect it and power it up slowly. It would be a shame to damage it.

Another neat video. I love when people let you into their homes to see what treasures they have collected. I just love things from the 50’s and 60’s. I was born in 51 so it brought back memories. Simpler times for sure. Or maybe it seems that way because I was a child😀. Maybe their were no simpler times just childhood memories. Thanks so much. It is always a pleasure to watch your channel. Merry Christmas to all of your family.

Alex, Love your "Treasure Hunting". My wife, Suzan and I used to go to garage sales. W e looked for stuff to resell at our local Flea market. Some of those garage sales really were in garages or at homes, just like the ones you explore. Your finds are nostalgia for us. We still have a pile of early "Ladies Home Journals that we brought with us to Ferndale. Your fortunate to live in an area where people have homes for a long time...That's where the "goodies " are. Thanks, Rik

Hilary C - Families would often take items out of our estate sales when they saw what the appraised price of the item was. We had to revise our contract form informing the family that we would be entitled to the commission we would have received if the item sold at the estate sale. If the family takes back all of the antiques and items of value, we no longer have an estate sale. We have a rummage sale.

Those cardboard advertisements you have are what were known as flongs- " a temporary negative mould." I can remember seeing them when I was shown around the print room of Express Newspapers in Fleet Street, London in 1983 when I had the misfortune to work there. Hot metal printing was soon going to be swept away but even then, there was a huge factory under the newspaper offices. Here is the Wiki entry on flongs for you to read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flong

9:15 That Rogers-Majestic console radio is beautiful, but I'm betting that a rotted out line cord is the least of its problems. I'd have an expert check it out first. A shorted capacitor in the high voltage circuit can really "fire" it up! :( Safety first. Wishing I had the bucks (and the room) for that beautiful Canadian-made radio! I think this is the same model: www.greenhillsgf.com/IndexOwn_RogersMajestic_7M931.htm If it is, it has a more elaborate "Magic Eye" tuning tube than is typical. What a great radio!
