My brother had that Texaco hat. Every year the Texaco Company gave employees a toy for their kids at Christmas. My dad worked for Texaco in NY from 1954-1965. Alex, you and your crew of quirky elves have done a super job on this. You're building an empire and you should be very proud of this accomplishment. Looking forward to seeing what you build for the next part... maybe a soda shop, a coffee shop, an addition to the general store, a garage to display some vintage vehicles and motorbikes, maybe a couple of mobility scooters too... only perhaps mobility scooters are too new an item; but since I drive one of those I thought I'd mention them. (grins). If I ever get to visit Edmonton again visiting 'Curiosity Inc.' and 'General Store' will be my first adventure. Expect a big crowd for your opening. "If you build it, they will come." I wish I could be there for that grand opening too but I live in Vancouver and my mobility scooter just can't make that trip. Very well done Alex. Couple of constructive suggestions- A piece of velcro on the counter and bottom of the glass candy jars, so they do not get knocked off counter, from excited kiddies. A vintage looking copper strip around the edge of the penny counter, will help keep pennies on the edge from getting broken loose from the resin. Keeping treats on hand for the neighborhood 4-legged friends, will ensure they make a pit-stop with their owners/future potential customers to your place of business, when they are out for their walks. LOL!

There are always some things to remember in a series such as this, just as there were in the Potter's House, this one for me will be Josh running at the door to break it open, I don't think you'd realised what he was going to do but the tell tale way of cutting a cross as well as the edge should have given you a clue and of course delightful Hans who blames you for getting pulled over in his truck as you've made him famous and of course he could have built that store "from the bottom up".A delightful mix of friends and family which made up your renovation team. I'll be thinking of you on Saturday, hope it's a good one, get your bow tie out and enjoy every minute of it. Never give up on your dreams Alex and the Welsh witch in me tells me that perhaps Josh might come bearing gifts - who knows? You can never have enough inventory space, so you will likely build for that, but you could have three or four small tables and some nice Canadian Roasted coffee and teas and local baked goods, so all your fans can linger a bit longer, but I still wonder too about the homemade, old fashioned ices and ice cream cart for summer with an outdoor table or two, too.
@raraavis77824 жыл бұрын
Noble King I totally vote for a small cafe, too. Especially with those long, cold Canadian winters. People drive there especially, after all. Stands to reason, that they would welcome an opportunity, to sit down and have a nice cup of coffee, before they do their shopping. And cold drinks/ice cream basically sell themselves in summer. It’s also always nice, to have a corner, where one spouse can stay with the little ones, when young families are on an outing.

Another Archbold dream come true! I wish you and your family all the best on your Grand Opening on Saturday! If I wasn't 2,448 mi away, per Mapquest, I'd be there! Congrats! NJ Fan

What a kind man to send you that box of curios. 102$ postage! The sotre looks great. I think you will need to create a mirror store as there is no way you have enough space.... Best wishes for the opening.

You need a little bell on that door. I'm old enough tor remember stores that use to have a cowbell (from Texas here) or similar that let the store employees know when someone entered. Dunno why I feel that way...just do.
