The Philbrook is one of our favorite places in Tulsa. We live in Houston now, but, 40 years ago we lived just a few blocks from the Philbrook. We would walk to it and go to movies and music that they would hold on the grounds out back. We went to Tulsa last year and that was the number one thing on our list to see. You should have taken a tour, they tell you so much about the history of the family and house. After the Phillips family moved, they moved to Cimmaron, New Mexico and built a home/ranch that eventually was donated to the Boy Scouts of America and became known as Philmont Boy Scout Ranch. If you grew up in the US and were a Boy Scout, it was the ultimate destination to strive for. So glad you were able to spend some time in Tulsa. It's a beautiful little city or big town. Most of the residents have a lot of pride for it I know we did!

Please come back and visit the Gilcrease Museum. It's currently under reconstruction and will display mostly art of the American West. This home was owned by the Phillips Family of Phillips 66. There is also another museum in the Bartlesville area that was Waite Phillips hunting lodge. You'll notice their influence in downtown Tulsa in the Philtower and the Philcade buildings. The Philcade lobby is especially opulent. More to come I hope.

They do story time on the grounds then they give the kids food to feed the Koi. Great intro for the littles to the Philbrook! Their Frida exhibit was amazing.

I got this notification and I hit it so fast. You’re in my “home” town. I actually grew up an hour away but Tulsa was the closest city to us so we spent quite a bit of time there. I even went to college there so I did live in T-town for a bit. I no longer live there but it’s still home to me.

Thank you Alex, I would probably never have known about that museum, but I enjoyed looking at it and the art inside. It was eye candy for an old “Armchair Traveler!” Your comments are good, and I too would have always missed seeing a pumpkin painting with seagulls in it! Thank you for the wonderful tour! I live in Tulsa and am ashamed to say it's been a while since I visited Philbrook so this is a nice reminder! Before I retired I worked in the building downtown where the Phillips family moved to after they moved from Philbrook. They had the beautiful penthouse in the building. When our company bought it we were privileged to enjoy many special Christmas parties there.

The last year my Mom owned her condo in Colorado my sister was living in central Washington state. She knew I wanted to go see my sister, I mean, she wanted to see her too, but she asked what I wanted to do when we went to see her. I told her that more than anything, I wanted to go back to Victoria B.C. We, Mom, Dad, sister and I, had gone there in 1973. So we went. And while we were just kind of driving around the island what did we see? Pumpkins! Fields of pumpkins!

It is nice to see you in my hometown. Philbrook has changed alot, not as many classic art pieces. I'm not much as a fan of modern art. I do hope you get to go to woolarock, that is an amazing place. Last time i was there they had long horn cattle, donkeys, bison that you could buy food pellets to feed them as you drove up to museum. Have fun.

So glad you were able to enjoy Philbrook. Too bad the other flagship art museum of Tulsa is currently being rebuilt, Gilcrease. The collection for that museum includes jaw-dropping Thomas Moran vistas, Remington bronzes, Native American art and more. Hope you were able to peruse the Woody Guthrie Center and the Bob Dylan Center.

Lovely place. Reminiscent of many stately homes here in the UK, especially with those wonderful formal gardens. We have the National Trust here that own hundreds of fine examples, usually all furnished or restored just as they were 2-300 hundred years ago, if not older. Even tourists can get a National Trust membership card and visit all manner of places across the UK. We are members and we visit such wonderful homes at least every month. Nice to know there are similar places in the US, born out of, what we would call, 'new' money!

I like Philbrook WAY better than Gilcrease. I got to play the Organ at Christmas about 15 years ago. Pretty neat experience! Cool that clay suitcase is still there!

I think that if you go to that museum after it closes, Nick Dark, the umbrella hat guy, the catfish riding lady, and the guy on the horse (and all the people in the pictures) come alive. Stay clear of those dogs, though...or bring treats.

doesnt even mention it was the Phillips Family Home. as in Phillips 66. they also had Woolaroc out near Bartlesville which was their Hunting Lodge. has a bunch of Native American artifacts and Phillips 66 aligned stuff. as well as a drive through animal preserve with Bison, Elk, Longhorn, Ostriches, Llamas, etc Gilcrease Museum is currently being rebuilt and has a very large Native American collection. Is mainly an American History and Art Museum.

Ever been to the comic museum in San Francisco Alexander? Went in 04 but felt let down by the range . But saw the town hall from A view to a kill james bond. Stil white stone and not blackened from the film. Saw lombard str. The Rock . Should have left the ex there!!! Doubtfire movie house. The Presidio another sean connery movie starring mark harmon too oh and some actress called Meg Ryan. ILM film centre now sold off if you saw tested from last yr they showed you a model plane from Always. Philbrook is very near and dear to my heart. My aunt was a volunteer there for many years setting-up the displays, working on preservation, and much more. I agree with @cynthia2233, you should have taken a tour. Also is you read the description of the art you can learn about them. They also have one of the most extensible pottery collections in the world.
