After The Potters house and The Musicians house, this house seems almost mundane although it’s former residents clearly were not! One was a well read bibliophile, one was an expert at assembling incredibly complex models. And of course the master weaver! This is a home where creativity and an appreciation for The Arts were valued! I feel like they would have been warm, and interesting folks. Thank You for the respect with which you treat the things they loved and valued. I know this is hard, hard work! Thanks for inviting us along on the Adventure!

@Susie Jakes It was the wishes of the deceased/family to donate to the guild, not Alex’s decision. He was responsible for arranging it. His purchase of the rest of the estate/property includes clean-up. That’s his part. He knows that going in. I understand that room looks untidy now, but they didn’t exactly find it in immaculate state, and he has to pull it out/dig through it all in order to determine it’s fate regardless, really. Suppose they did make a motion to clean up more, suppose Alex told them don’t bother? Maybe they did, maybe they didn’t, but at the end of the day, we don’t know. We aren’t there. Alex handles himself and well in his interactions, I trust he did so here as well.

@@saltandpepper986 hi, read your comments. I didn’t understand from the videos that the owners had donated the weaving gear. Alex commented that he would, see some return on the looms etc. Later he suggested the local weaving club would benefit from the stock and they could take it. He seems like a very generous young man. Maybe the weavers felt it was within their rights to leave it as it was. I don’t think it’s always best to act on your rights. I have a large extended family we regularly rent holiday homes to be together. When we leave we have paid and it’s our right to expect the owners to clean and clear up after us. The last day of our holiday everyone pulls together and nine times out of ten we leave the accommodation cleaner than we find it. I think this shows respect for the proprietors and their property. This is always very well received and it makes us feel good. It’s a matter of just going that extra mile.

Jennifer Tomes Both Alex and also, most recently, Melissa have said in comments that the previous owner “had promised looms etc. to an organization” and were “not included in [their] purchase.” We see only an edit, only a portion. Any viewer understandings or assumptions come only through the filming and editing choices unless otherwise clarified in words. [Edited for punctuation]

You threw out a Seanix computer! They were the very last fully "Canadian" brand - you don't see "made in Canada" on motherboards anymore. That CRT monitor next to it looked like it had an FD Trinitron tube in it, and it looked pretty big - I'd have paid $300+ for the monitor if in good working condition, been looking for one for 5+ years and not willing to pay the crazy prices on eBay.

There are people who sell antique food packages on eBay - without the contents. The right cereal box from the 60s or 70s can be worth hundreds. Some people may say you're not getting maximum value for what you're selling - but time is money. At the wholesale level, you have to turn over your capital and move masses of merchandise, which puts you at the top of the selling chain. If the guy who bought the puzzles, probably for a few hundred dollars, sells each one on eBay for $20-50, he will make a lot of money, but spend hundreds of hours listing and shipping. Plenty for everyone! Alex knows nothing about classical record collecting. Typically, about one classical record in 1000 is a $$$ record, and you need years of experience to know which one.

The corn husk doll is SPINNING.. NOT weaving. As one who *spins* wool into yarn, and then either knits with it, using knitting needles.. or.. weaves with it on any number of different looms, I cringe a bit. I want you to get the terminology down.

Dont be so quick to throw out old food packaging(shake and bake) Resale Rabbit sells old cereal boxes and gets 200-300 each for them. Empties the inside and it is an easy mailing.

That Meteor is a Canada-only model. At least it wasn't offered in the U.S. My dad had a '73. It was a lower cost Monterey. And a Convertible? Has to be rare. You will have no trouble selling that on.

The Goodwill in Maine paid 1.2 million dollars for garbage removal last year. Apparently people, with good intentions, donated unusable items that had to be thrown out
@debshaw6803 жыл бұрын
It’s not necessarily good intentions. A lot of places you have to pay to take things to the dump. I worked in a thrift shop briefly doing intake. You get filthy clothes, nasty sex toys, used diapers, bedding with all sorts of unspeakable things on, bags and boxes of dishes that haven’t been washed with food still stuck to them, just straight up garbage bags with garbage in, and broken toys. I opened one box and it was crusty dishes and hundreds of roaches came boiling out of it all over me. That was the last straw for me and I quit.

@@debshaw680 I can’t even imagine someone donating dirty dishes. I do “donate” clothes in various shape, but always clean. I know some stores will repurpose the fabric into rags. I would rather do that than throw it into a landfill.
@debshaw6803 жыл бұрын
@@BE19971 A lot of it gets sent overseas and sold there. Sadly it’s often the stained or tatty stuff. Same with chipped or stained dishes and such. A lot ends up in landfills there. America sends a lot of trash to other countries, especially plastic waste. Some clothing can be cut up for quilting or for reprocessing into rag rugs and the like. My daughter is a theatre person and we made a wall hanging out of her show shirts. We try to upcycle as much as we can.
@BE199713 жыл бұрын
@@debshaw680 Yes, our systems aren’t perfect. I’ve recently started buying Rothy’s, shoes made from recycled plastic bottles. I also buy bamboo toothbrushes and other bamboo clothing. I buy used clothing, too. I have reusable bags, cups, and I buy soap pods not in plastic. There’s more we could all do to reuse or repurpose stuff.

12:37 that's a vaporizer, for when people have colds ... you put Vicks in the little cup in front of the steam hole. My mother had one like that.
@bizburgess19473 жыл бұрын
The blue striped glass thing is an old humidifier that was used when people had chest congestion. You would put Vicks vapour rub in the the little black tray in front of the steam output. I don't know about Alberta (you guys have very dry weather) but here in NS hospitals do not allow the use of them since around the 80s. The mould the high humidity created made breathing far worse than it ever helped. Also it could contribute to the spread of Legionnaires Disease.
