I liked 1942 ($125 at Costco a few years ago) when I first began sipping tequila but I've grown away from it as I've tasted more and better brands without additives. That said, I like it better than some well-respected, non-additive brands that-for me-have too much earthiness and minerality. Your scores seem right to me.

Dillion is spot on, price-wise, you can get Tears for an extra 25 bucks at MSRP. And Tears kick 1942 in the nuts.
@uduran99072 жыл бұрын
For the novice moving up, 1942 is great. For the experienced tequila drinker, no longer an option. There are better options out there under $100. i.e. G4, El Tequileno, Fortaleza, 7 Leguas, ArteNOM 1146, etc.

Giving extra points for 1942 not tasting like additives is puzzling. If something taste like additives it should get minus points. If it doesn't taste like additives it should not get extra credit for that.

I have an old bottle from before 2000 (in the wooden box), I wonder if they used additives then...I haven't opened it yet, but a later one I tried cerca 2007 was as you describe it.

I have to say I've tried but really dislike Tequila Ocho. I have a bottle now and it's too heavy on flavors i don't like. It tastes like it has brine from a jar of olives which I find unpleasant in it. I'm not saying it's bad or not excellent quality but only that it does not suit me. I feel sort of the same about Cascahuin which leans only slightly in that direction and which I like much better but I'd get Arrete or Tres Agaves first which are very good value... or Partida.

@donnelldavis77262 жыл бұрын
Am I missing something... can you disprove additives when the claim is No Additives. Bad marks for tasting like no additives when you assume there are additives but with a product claim of no additives. I need clarity.
@CuriosityPublic2 жыл бұрын
Not sure when Don Julio has claimed there are not additives in 1942. The NOM regulations allow for 1-4% of the total volume to be additives even when the labeling says "100% agave." They are pretty easy to discern when you've tasted certified additive free tequilas and compare them. Please let us know if Don Julio has claimed somewhere that they don't use additives - it would be interesting to look into further.
@rogersahagun2 жыл бұрын
You can definitely check for additives. In a pan on low heat simmer some tequila and when the alcohol evaporates check the pan for its leftovers. A natural no additive anejo will have leftovers that taste bitter like oak from the barrell. If it tastes sweet like cake batter then you know it has additives.
@GregD872 жыл бұрын
The Kardashians made this popular. Since 818 came out though, they have been drinking that instead. It’s the reason my wife has been bugging me for years to buy a bottle but I refuse. We did try a $28 pour at a restaurant though.

I think you guys should do more blind scoring because some people’s bias is taking over the show. I get Dillon is being satirical, but some people actually watch these for information. Not that this garbage is a good tequila, I just mean in general.

Funny...Dutch seems to be arguing that Don Julio has the best additives money can buy... Sorry, but in my area you can typically get a Tapatio Excelencia Extra Añejo (1L) and a G4 Anejo and still have enough left over to pay for 2/3 of a Fortaleza Anejo for what the stores are listing this at.
