Glorious Oobleck.
You may know it by another name? Gloop or just cornflour.
Whatever you call it, It’s such a wonderful sensory malleable material. It a scientific experiment for Early Years. STEM ❤️
What happens when you squeeze Oobleck? What happens when you release the pressure?
Poke it, press it ? Pour or let it run through your fingers ?
Is it a solid or a liquid ?
Oobleck or gloop, is a non-Newtonian fluid, what this means is, that its viscosity, or resistance to flow, changes depending on the amount of force applied to it.
Oobleck, a mixture of cornstarch and water, behaves like a liquid when gently mixed or poured but can also act like a solid when a left to settle or sudden force is applied, such as when squeezed or squashed . Glorious stuff!
Today we share photos from @knightondaynurseryandpreschool( first accredited setting ever) who having been adding watercolours to their trays and watching as the cornflour transforms.
