I would love to see this done again in the bowl. But with a weight ready to drop. So when it boils you can release the weight and see what happens. Will the weight drop through like it's liquid or does it solidify up? You may need a high speed camera of course.

The reason the food coloring separated is probably this: It was dissolved in the water, which was probably saturated; as the water evaporated due to low pressure, the water remaining in the bowl became oversaturated with food coloring, so it started to separate.

It seems to me that the starch in the oobleck, when compressed, forces the water/air particles outwards faster than any other composition. I'M NO SCIENTIST, ok! And could you re-do it, but put a magnet on the lid locked by another magnet, then release it, to see its influence on the oobleck? If it sticks of sinks.

I don't know if you thought of making a video like this but; how is heat (not light)conducted through a vacuum? So if you would place an ice cube in the center of a completely dark (maybe even lead,so no radiation can get through)vacuum chamber with some wire so it does not touch the sides.how and why does this cube melt...and will it melt??? I am really curious!!

doesnt gas escape when boiling so either way if there were no air bubbles before bubbling the same thing would happen as soon as it starts to boil?
@joshjh-xy8ey
@joshjh-xy8ey 6 жыл бұрын
Would the fact that it became less "flow-y" in the vacuum be because it is boiling so there is an increase in energy therefor the Oobleck is not moving as fast because of the energy levels is higher just like when you transfer energy from the hammer?

Could they not use a non notonian fluid inside kevlar except try and alter it to have a higher sheer rate. That means it would essentially be very light weight until it gets hit with a bullet then it turns more into a solid. Obviously you can't use oobleck as it's too weak but they could try and use a non notonian fluid that's got an even higher sheer rate

Uno it dawned on me. If ooblek can be removed of all its air then made still. After that go back to being repressured would that make it harder or ultimately remain the same when touched firmly/ hard. Could this stuff be used like a armour against blunt force impacts. Set up in a apron/ body vest

@julianbrelsford

Guessing ketchup is basically ooblek-Lite in that a major portion of it is water and carbohydrates (including starch). The density of starch in ketchup is low enough to keep it from having the most visible and dramatic ooblek properties

Could you do rapid decompression? If you added a second, 2-3x larger pressure tank (old propane or CO2 tank) connected to your chamber with a quick release valve. Could you decompress the larger tank, then at zero pressure, open the valve to the plexiglass chamber. You could run the pump the entire time. The plexi chamber would rapidly decompress. 😊
