I do believe Sephiroth at the edge of creation is a different version of him that genuinely wants to do something good with Cloud. In Lifestream: Black it's mentioned that when Sephiroth entered the Lifestream he abandoned his memories of his boyhood, of his friends and everything to fully commit himself to this new purpose he has. EOC Sephiroth might be a manifestation of those memories. Especially since Sleepezi pointed out that in Japanese he describes himself in a pre insanity way unlike Sephiroth throughout the rest of the game. He also seems to genuinely want Cloud's help, not just to own him. The famous 7 seconds line is also mistranslated. In Japanese the line is "7 seconds till the end. But we can still make it in time. The future is in your hands, Cloud". Way different.
@slanderpop87713 күн бұрын
You say that line is mistranslated but I just don’t believe that. Kitase and Co know exactly what the English version means. They pour over all that heavily. They aren’t putting mistranslations into the game. Everything that’s in the game is meant to be. They’re just might not be 1:1 translations between that line with Japanese and English.
@mellemadswoestenburg12963 күн бұрын
@slanderpop8771 Mistranslations happen all the time in gaming. As a Kingdom Hearts fan i can say that with certainty. That line in Japanese is exactly what I said right there. You can look it up if you want to. It has happened before too. In Remake's resolution scene with Aerith after she tells Cloud not to fall in love with her he says "do I get a say in all this?" Lamenting the fact that Aerith is putting a boundary on their relationship. In Japanese he says "that's a very one-sided statement". Which is not even close to the same but it is more accurate for Cloud. At this point in the story Cloud wouldn't think about a romance with her. In Rebirth when Cloud wakes up in chapter 14 Barret tells Cloud that he thought he was done for. In English Cloud says "sorry to disappoint" as if Barret would want him to die. In Japanese he says "thank you for carrying me". Again not even close to the same. And it flows better with what Barret says afterwards, "you can thank me for the ride later". Translation teams take liberties a lot of the time. It just happens. So when there's a misunderstanding because of it I do point it out. As I said, you can fact check me if you want.

(Lifestream White) According to Nomura her consciousness is interlinked with Cloud's and she lives within him. It's a whole nother question tho what will happen if Sephiroth should be permanently defeated by the end of part 3.

It's anything but safe at this point. I would be surprised if Zack and Aerith even interact in the next game. I'm thinking something along the lines of Zack being in the main world while Aerith and Cloud are going to be the ones to lifestream it up. When Cloud loses his mind or turns into a vegetable he'll wake up in the dream world with Aerith again.
@KittyKat_89733 күн бұрын
I see a lot of people talking about who Aerith is at the end, but not many people talk about how eerie and out of character Cloud's smile is by the lake. He has never smiled like that at anyone (post-neibelheim incident) during any of the games or spinoffs, and it's unnerving... There are so many moments that are more funny, light-hearted, romantic, etc. and he never smiles like that. I think the idea of Sephiroth trying to shatter the party's trust in Cloud is a solid theory. Omni-Sephiroth knows events of the OG and probably Advent Children. At the end of AC, he specifically asks Cloud what he cherishes most, and Cloud gives him an honest answer followed by Sephiroth not seeming too bummed about being defeated again. Perhaps he is taking that knowledge to rob Cloud of his support system this time around because Cloud told him that he cherishes them all. If no one trusts or believes him, no one goes to help him when he falls apart and lands in Mideel. It would make sense with Cait Sith's fortune.

Tifa saw Aerith bloodied and unbloodied. That alone tells the audience that what Cloud is experiencing is reliable in some instances, because if Tifa can see it, even briefly, that implies it’s not solely a figment of Cloud’s breaking psyche. Nor is it solely a result of Jenova/Sephiroth shenanigans. I firmly believe Cloud is speaking to Lifestream Aerith and she is doing her part to ensure Cloud plays his role in these newish events.
@Jean-Poule_II3 күн бұрын
Story wise and based on the OG, I feel like Rebirth was kinda "supposed" to be Aerith's part of the game, but they actually never made it that way and I think it's for a good reason. I think the fact that Aerith still hasn't gotten her ultimate Limit Break with Zack actually having his own fully fledged, very complete and complex and detailed fighting style just like all the other party members with full materia set up they brought on only by the very end of the game seems to point out that part of the story will be about following them together. Maybe it's just coping at this point as Aerith is my fav character, but with how they have seem very careful to treat her equally to Tifa in a segment of the story where OG was more heavily biased towards her and how they have made this project as a celebration of the initial release as well as the broader Compilation would point me in the direction of them giving both Zack and Aerith a more prominent role in the next game, just at least to stay true to that vision. I feel like not doing that would be a bit of a let down to both characters in a way the Remake trilogy hasn't been too keen towards so far, but I would also kinda struggle to see how they would be able to fit all of that in what is already expected to be a massive game, so I'm not holding my hopes up too high. Though she might not be the most popular, Aerith kinda is, after all, one of the most iconic characters from OG with Cloud and Sephiroth; and on his part Zack litteraly had his own spin off title. Also with them saying they were working on special traversal/exploration mechanics for Tifa or something like that I don't remember the exact quote, while Cloud is in recovery without giving Aerith a similar treatment would seem a bit wierd given how equally they have treated both girls so far. In my opinion, Zack was severely underutilized in Rebirth and I would struggle to understand why they would pour so much efforts into bringing him back if they weren't to do anything more substantial with him. Just my two cents tho, hope this is not just some wishful thinking copium at this point either haha! Regarding who is Aerith at the end, Aleczandxr has made a pretty interesting point in his 8h Rebirth review/analysis regarding the idea that it is Omni-Aerith that is in fact presenting to Cloud to prevent his mind from collapsing, though I am not well versed enough into his argument or the story of the game to comment on it other than to say that I found his interpretation extremely interesting and compelling and it made me largely abandon the idea that she is a Jenova projection. Just thought I'd drop that here for those interested.

I absolutely think you're right! We surely haven't seen the last of Aerith or Zack, or either of their interactions with Cloud. At first I thought it might be coping because Aerith is my favourite too, but they've set things up with the multiple worlds too carefully for it all to just be ignored. I think they may also play a role in "fixing" Cloud because after all, Marlene did entrust this task to Zack so that Cloud could save Aerith. I really hope they follow through because if not then it'll be a big letdown if the different worlds, omni Aerith and her whispers and Zack's return all amount to nothing in the end.

@@brileonn Yes! And also the fact that Zack told Cloud "You have to save her!" or something like that as they are being separated again during their fight together against Sephiroth *after he had already stabbed Aerith* is very suspicious to me. Like why would he say that when she's already dead? I feel like it's pointing to something. Maybe it's about Cloud feeling more guilt as he will realize he has also failed Zack once he stops being delulu, but that seems unduly harsh towards his character, especially coming from Zack. Like how much can my boy take at this point haha? Seems a bit like excessive, kinda over the top and very random misery to just drop there in the middle of an insane multi phase final boss fight, though that is also not something FFVII is completely stranger to either... Perhaps it's about Cloud and Zack trying to find a way to save her this time around working around different places inside and outside of the Lifestream?

I think you're right, maybe the worlds are part of the lifestream or will be soon, so they'll be working from different worlds to communicate with Cloud! What's super neat is that Cloud was already able to see from his comatose self's POV at one point, I think at the gold saucer when he was napping at the hotel if I'm remembering right? IF they want to keep the OG ending, I hope the 7 seconds to the end is Cloud's choice between Omnislashing Sephiroth OR rescuing Aerith and Zack from another world. And maybe we as players can actually decide. If you choose Omnislash - the path of vengeance - you get Advent Children afterward. But if you choose to save A and Z - forgive Sephiroth and swallow your revenge desires - you get a new ending that we all don't know yet. PS: I get why many are thinking, Aerith should stay dead, because that's just how it went down, fate, the circle of life and death etc. But she was murdered, it was unnatural. Murder should never be your fate and we should always try everything to prevent such things. She wanted to live. So if there is a way, in a fantasy world, to prevent that from happening, why not let her live?

It makes the most sense that it's Omni-Aerith, and Cloud is the only one that can see her because he exists in both the new world where he saved her physical form, along with the "original" world where she died. The rest of the party was transported out of the new world during the Jenova fight. Cloud is confused because he's seeing both worlds. Nothing he's seeing is wrong or false, he is just experiencing too many things at once which will end up breaking him. The rest of the party clearly saw Aerith die, while he saw her alive. No one is gonna believe him and they'll continue to think he's crazy. Unfortunately for him, he's not lying, but experiencing two parallel realities which will make him look disconnected. I just don't think Jenova played a part in the ending of Rebirth, people have simply misunderstood what actually happened to Aerith and the creation of the new world. Cloud clearly saw the split in the sky while no one else did, which means he is mentally not in the same world as everyone else even if he is physically experiencing both worlds. This split in his psyche is gonna make it even easier for Sephiroth to torment him in Part 3.

The one catch though is that I do think at some point, Aerith and Zack have to be taken out of the equation, so that Cloud can finish Sephiroth 1v1. Maybe at some point during the fight, Aerith could sense that Holy isn't going to make it in time to Stop Meteor, and she has to focus on preparing the lifestream to provide support. Zack would then offer to stick around, and help Cloud finish Sephiroth, but Cloud turns him down, telling him to focus on protecting Aerith instead.

I think what he was REALLY talking about was the destruction of the Planet itself. And when he said this line in Remake: 'Those are all bound to her. Should this world be unmade, so too, shall her children', I think he was referencing here about the Planet itself, NOT Jenova! That's just what I believe that Unknown Sephiroth was trying to tell us. Actually the planet's Whispers are or were gray. The defeat of the Whisper Harbinger in Remake meant that the planet lost control over them. They're white because Aerith hijacked her own Whispers in a similar manner as Sephiroth hijacked his and they turned black. Aerith actually isn't the planet. As far as the planet is concerned Aerith is the lesser nuisance of two invaders who aren't operating by the book. Another comment said it here, but I wonder if Part 3 will have Aerith guiding Zack and them fighting together. Zack is currently fighting his original fate, while Aerith is now dealing with a new path due to Cloud creating a new world where she survived Sephiroth's attack. There is a part of the final fight where the party is brought to a completely different place than Cloud, and I think this is the original world where Aerith died. This means there may be another world where Cloud and Aerith exist without the rest of the party. Aerith in this new world, if she retains physical form, will be tracked down by Sephiroth once again. However, I have a feeling she is gonna look for Zack if she knows he's alive in some capacity. Zack and Aerith may end up having their own version of Sephiroth to take down. They may succeed or fail, but this will play a pivotal role in the bigger story and figuring out Sephiroth's main motivation.

Going off your thought about both Cloud and Sephiroth not being able to accept death, and Sephiroth wanting to live in a world without death... maybe part of the reason why Sephiroth kills Aerith is that he wants Cloud to experience loss the way he did, and not be able to accept it, and therefore want to work with him to reshape the world were no one has to suffer that kind of loss. I think Sephiroth would lean more towards a world where everyone dies rather than no one, but then they would all be in the lifestream together, maybe existing in one of these worlds.

I think It is better for us that they release it as late as possible. There's so much about characters - gameplay - lore - etc. You've already talked about trio synergy skills or even a synergy with all characters in the party- explorable lands that you can only access them with highwind like top of the mountains or even some sky island like Zelda TOTK. they can even add sky diving with parachute like zelda TOTK. Highwind combat gameplay - submarine and some under the ocean gameplay like the depth in zelda TOTK- zack stuff, etc They can even add Sephiroth flashback- genesis and angeal stuff... Dude there's so much to do with part 3 that I've no problem if we have to wait until even 2029. *Sorry for my bad English*

I know that this sounds crazy but what if Omni-Sephiroth helps you defeat this version of Sephiroth at the final battle? I would love for one version of Sephiroth to be redeemed and help. As if he realizes all the bad he has done and then Celine’s the hero he always needed to be.

Imagine the uproar if the devs decided that "the 7 seconds until the end" was simply about Cloud pulling out or not in the scene with Tifa and him below the Highwind. Yeah, that scene. They said that the kiss scene between Tifa and Cloud in Rebirth was to show their relationship development so what's next for FF7R pt. 3...? 👀

This take on cloud being the only reliable narrator isn’t a super interesting take. It’s the dumbest take in the world 🤦♂️

Back when the 25th anniversary of Kingdom hearts was going down they had a picture of cloud in the remake Midgard standing looking at the heart moon. Ever since I saw it, I couldn’t shake, thinking sora might show up to help cloud remember who he is. OG fans all cringe, but i could see them mixing IP’s especially if we get square worlds in KH4
