Lightning ends her series by becoming a literal Goddess, made divine by the son of the Goddess that created her world, was intended by him to be the new Goddess Of Death. And this was after being a champion for the original Goddess of death for 500 years in Valhalla… And she defeated that God and took part in creating a new world. Like it or not, Clive doesn’t come close. This isn’t taking into account all her abilities across all three games. She can teleport, slow and stop time on a whim. And let’s not forget, Clive’s gameplay is based on her LR gameplay mechanics. It’s actually crazy similar. Except she can do far more, ability wise and customization wise. She ran so Noctis and Clive could lightly jog.

Oh you forgot the fun ones of Mr Meteor man Derplander. -Can summon seven other versions of himself from alternate timelines. -layed the smackdown on the pantheon of gods and goddesses including one that governs fate itself meaning he has fate negation. -Scaled to Gilgamesh by beating him and Enkidu solo all the way in ARR where he was at his weakest considering Gilgamesh scales to the void this is a huge deal. -absolutely dragged Shinryu and Omega who are literally multiversal+ threats on his own -casually survived being hit by exploding planets, galaxies and even being thrown through an exploding Universe without a scratch during Eden. -scales past the very concept of a warrior of light during shadowbringers FF14's WoL is legitimately the strongest FF protagonist by an absolute fuck ton.

Extra honorable mention to Yuna from FFX. While she herself is isn't much more than a regular human, when equipped with all her potential summons, she's like a nuclear glass cannon. She'll fold like paper if you hit her but when she's got the likes of Bahamut, Anima, and Yojimbo to protect her I'd put her up there with just about anyone.

Honestly, in the same boat, they should have added the WoL of 14 for all the insane feats they have done like fighting the literal embodiment of nilhilism, Gilgamesh, and Omega with all the most memorable bosses across the final fantasy multiverse. I'm also upset they didn't add the WoL from 11 as well. The WoL of has done insane feats as well, like facing off against being like Promathia, who is a god that represents true death on like a multiversal universal scale or Atomos a being that can consume literal time lines. The objectively correct answer is the WoL from FFXIV as they’re just going to continue to kill that universe’s equivalents of other main antagonists and super bosses. Chaos, Cloud of Darkness, Zeromus, Exdeath, Shinryu, Omega, Kefka, Ruby/Emerald/Diamond Weapon, Ultima Weapon, Aboslute Virtue, Pandaemonium Warden, Ultima the High Seraph, Yiazmat, Zodiark, ect. Zenos could also fit the role for both The Emperor (II) and Vayne (XII). I get that it’s an MMO and therefore far more subjective, but still!

Two things: 1: If you’re refering to what happened in “The Final Day” then that was a one time thing. Every other limit break is pulling in aether that has been expended in battle and out into the surroundings and channeling it into one powerful attack. 2: I wrote this, but the WoL has defeated a good chunk of main antagonists and super bosses from other games, including a chunk of the entries from this list!

We know in lore that limit breaks usually require vast amounts ambient aether to activate that's why you can perform them in parties like in dungeons, trials, and raids but not when by yourself, because of the mass amounts of aether being released in a group and the one doing the limit break is pulling on the energy being released by the party doing their attacks and focuses it into a giant super move. What happened in Ultima Thule was Dynamis base and it does prove that limit breaks and not only reliant on aether but can be done by Dynamis if aether is unavailable, but it doesn't mean that limit breaks are completely Dynamis based. I assume, like with aether, when in a party of people the vibe of fighting for your life and with inmense determination that with everyone being in the same mindset a limit break can be pulled off. Kinda like a team wide soul resonance from Soul Eater if you ever watched or read it. (that's the best example or some similar I can use to describe Dynamis based limit break)

Clive couldn’t even handle all the power he got. He started to turn to stone because of it, he lost all his power after that too. And Clive cannot become Odin, he can channel Odin. He can only become Ifrit/Ifrit Rising at most. Lightning can summon not just Odin, but any Eidolon in XIII-2, at once. She can also teleport, slow down and freeze time at will in Lightning Returns, and this is all in game. Hell, Clive’s gameplay mechanics are the same as Lightnings from Lightning Returns, except Lightning had WAY more abilities.

Zack is the OG. Saved the planet from Genesis AND Minerva, and fought a literal army down to the last man to protect Cloud. Also kind of criminal not to bring up the MC's from 11 and 14, both of whom are insanely powerful. Lighting is still the strongest of all, and one of only 2 to achieve true Godhood (11's adventurer being the other) albeit briefly. Noctis is pretty close though, as is Clive if you count the brief time during the ending where he has basically all the world's magic.

While I see everyone's point, Sephiroth has been stated, by Square Enix, to be more powerful than anyone else in the series. This was said years ago before ff13 came out so Noctis would be the only one mentioned to have a chance to be stronger than Cloud. And like I said, Cloud fights on par with a half serious Sephiroth. It's hard for me to put Cloud that low. I think there was even a time where they listed those who would be able to challenge Sephiroth, and Squall and Zidane were not on the list. I believe that interview was before 15 so Noctis once again could still be the exception. This is of course a lot of speculation so I could be wrong too.

XI Protag is Two classes, can summon their own party of anyone they met, and can solo Cloud of Darkness. XI Adventurer clears not only every FF protag, but many fictional characters in any franchise because they could simply summon them 🤣

Cloud is one of the most powerful characters in the final fantasy universe. He was experimented against his will to become soldier, to be the most powerful soldier to surpass all soldiers like Angeal, Genesis, and Zack, including Sephiroth as well. In the ending of the original Final Fantasy 7, he became much more powerful than Sephiroth when he beat him in the final duel when Cloud destroyed the last essence of Sephiroth where he is finally gone for good before Holy and the lifestream were summoned by Aerith to prevent Meteor for destroying the planet. Hojo even confirmed that Cloud is now his most precious subject more so than Sephiroth.

Lightning should have been #1. You guys didn't even cover her accomplishments from the XIII sequels. She kills the god of her universe by herself, becomes god, and reforms the universe. She beats Clive easily.

Eh, not sure. Can she be number 1? Yes. But I'm not that sure. She has feats over Clive but he still tecnically is basically almighty, with the dlc we can even see that he can defeat beings capable of compressing reality and space without priming and he is still more powerful than Ultima who could create universes as he pleased. Not saying that Clive is stronger, it's only that we never see the full extent of his powers. So I don't think we can say that Lightning beats Clive easily, but I also can't say that she doesn't.

It's a tie for me between Tidus and Squall. They're such different characters compared to each other. Tidus is just a great guy, but Squall's sass and broodiness is so fun, not to mention that epic gunblade. But I do think Lightning is way more powerful than both of them, especially in her god mode.

In fact, there’s a decent amount of evidence that shows he survived. He did lose his power though, and so did Terra by the end. So at that point Clive could just whack her a few times with his stone arm.

WoL of FFI is more powerful than everyone, canonically. He's not only the sole focus of the Goddess' power, the other protags actively look at him as the most powerful and the leader of their group, including the ones that don't like anyone. Looking at final bosses, he did single-handedly take on Chaos and Chronodia... not to mention WarMech. To the point that when FFXIV needed to demonstrate the ultimate Warrior of Light Incarnate, they picked FFI WoL as the image template.

However, some forget that Clive gains the power of creation from Ultima by the end, pretty much turning him into a god as well. I think there could be an argument made by Clive over Lightning, but we’ve seen stronger feats from Lightning overall.

I'm ok with most of the list except that Squall being above Cloud is preposterous lol (if that's the order implication). He 1v1's him easily based on scaling the relative fencing skills of Sephiroth and just as skilled if not better with magic/summoning. And his weapon guaranteed would do more damage on average, plus he tanks gunshots to the face in Advent Children (canon). I haven't played 16 yet, but I think Lightning still scales above him considerably. She defeats the Creator of the Universe in single combat. Enough said.

Objectively, it's the cast of the original Final Fantasy. Dissidia Final Fantasy is a sequal to every other protagonist, but a prequel to the FF1 cast. Implying even level 1 heroes are cosmic tier at the time. But they later fight the origins of Chaos. As well as Superbosses who outrank Chaos and Neo Exdeath; that being Shinryu and Omega. But above all, they fought and defeated Chronodia 10 times in a row. The all powerful goddess who Transends the very concept of time and space. Otherwise, the FFV cast are extremely close 2nd since they scale from Neo Exdeath and Enuo in the first place. And fought buffed versions of Omega and Shinryu. And they have the most versatility given all those jobs they master to create the ultimate composite Freelancer classes.

Tbh tho if you count lightnings ENTIRE journey she is the strongest. By the end she's defeating actual god of creation fighting on the fabric of reality. Clive fought essentially a false god that couldn't even create a planet. They are both the strongest of all since they are solo'ing gods but bhunivelze scales higher than ultima. Edit I should say that if WOL from 14 was here they might be anywhere between #1-#3 since they take world ending attacks to the face but they do really on teamwork and a deus ex blessing so no solo'ing but summoning allies is literally in their moveset so I don't think it counts against him and the blessing makes him the chosen one.

I was with you until you said Lightning in top 3 lol. Especially when you have Zidane who's made to destroy Gaia, Cloud who can literally fly and slice buildings and half, Squall with Lionheart all ranked below lightning who just looks cool. You really didn't give a good reason at all for lightning other than her Ao1 skill. Other characters have much stronger moves and diversity and overall destructive power.
