That orange flame looked bad . Maybe something wrong with gas pressure?
@sivalley4 жыл бұрын
Because of poor shielding from wind the gas/air mixing becomes poor and you end up with a lean and yellow flame.that is one gripe I have with older Lennox units, the burner box is so close to the door that the slightest breeze can wreck burner characteristics.
@throttlebottle59063 жыл бұрын
also lots of dust and dirt in there, the wind would stir that and that is instant dirty yellow flame. same thing occurs without wind and just foot traffic and removing/opening the cover stirring dust.

I'm betting that the proximate cause for that sparker failure was the bolts left out of the burner assembly. It let the edge of the venturi tube drop down just far enough that the distance to the sparker wire was about the same as the sparker gap.
@curioushvacguy68764 жыл бұрын
Good observation
@throttlebottle59063 жыл бұрын
but I seriously doubt the spark would cause the wire to catch fire, that 100% looked burnt from heat/flame. likely the door was blowing around open in the past, causing flame rollout and directly cooked it or a previous burner/orifice issue did the same.

Must be nice being able to get an exact pressure switch. When I replaced the one on my furnace last year I had to get a universal one, which was a pain in the ass to put together and get working. The guy at CARR Supply was only interested in selling me the universal even though I had the old one with me.
@MLG_154 жыл бұрын
With the universal pressure switch match the iwc to the spring and you should be golden. The first time I came across one it was a learning curve.

I spent nearly 10 years doing mechanical demo. The next job I got after that was with a maintenance contractor. The closest I got to doing demo is pressure washing AC coil units. The plus side is that I've seen so many junk units, that it helps me know areas that are vulnerable. Keep up the good work!

Where did you get that extension
@cthomaspac4 жыл бұрын
On those L series units. Use to have only half of the burner rack ignite. You had to clean the orifices , change the igniter , and cable. And clean or replace flame sensing rod. Then you were good to go.

Just a couple of questions... if you go through the trouble of ordering and replacing these aging parts, why not replace the old corroded terminals as well? Also, why not pull the burners and give them a cleaning while youre already in there? By no means am i being disrespectful, i love your content. Im just curious. Thanks
@curioushvacguy68764 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff- you make a very good point, the terminals I feel I could look at them and determine if they where corroded and should be replaced or not- I just made sure they had a nice tight connection but the burners It wouldnt have hurt to pull and clean those while I was in there, mental note for next time. I appreciate the feedback

Just like tuning up a car, you don’t want to just change your spark plugs, you want to change your distributor cap, rotor, plug wires etc. Even these days with coil on plug ignition and individual coils per cylinder it pays to replace them with the plugs usually they’re only 30 to 40 bucks per cylinder.
