I had a jheri curl many moons ago. During the soul glow era🤣🤣🤣. My hair grew like crazy but I kept a spray bottle on me so that I could spritz my hair whenever it felt dry. I never used heat on my hair & I conditioned my hair a lot. Plus, I trimmed my ends at every retouch. This style is still a lot of maintenance despite having a looser curl pattern due to the chemicals. I'm glad your hair started to grow back👏💜.

These new curl perms are dry. They require moisture just not soaking wet

You have gorgeous full hair. Glad you're transitioning back to fully natural. Try using the kenra blow dry spray (or the generic version from Sally's) before you blow dry and flat iron your hair. Only flat iron like once a month (if at all). deep condition weekly. And trim regularly.

i had the same negative experience with my hair in the shower. i learned that it's because my hair was dry that it was even shedding at all. for my hair when the new growth comes in for the different textures i dont detangle from root to tip EVER because i lose so much hair. Thank you for sharing i waited SO LONG for this update. So happy to see you hair flourishing!!!!

@@ravenunique Your natural hair was simply beautiful. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm not pro natural or pro chemical or pro heat. I'm pro length retention by any means necessary. So, if you retain length via natural...cool, if via chemical...cool, if via heat stretching..cool. I was natural 4c for 7 years before getting a curly perm. My natural 4c hair grew past my shoulders. My hair had never grew that long except when I was a little girl in the 80s with the jherri curl. I had tried every method to retain length for my 4c hair, past a little longer than my shoulders, but couldn't. Even with: deep conditioning, protective styling with loose braid extensions, wigs, clay treatments, finger detangling, no drying styling gel, stretching INDIRECT heat via hooded dryer, liquid/oil/conditioner (LOC method), etc., my natural 4c hair remained the same length for years. My natural 4c hair hated DIRECT heat through hot combs, and flat ironing. I only flat ironed my hair once in 7 years. So, I decided in December 2019 that I would get a curly perm (Jherri Curl) or whatever you want to call it. I can relate to the EXCESSIVE shedding of my curly perm initially, when my curly perm "chemical" was first placed in my natural hair in December 2019. In a few weeks, the excessive shedding stopped, due to my research and testing what my NOW CHEMICALLY TREATED CURLY PERM hair liked and disliked. The same routines that I used for my natural 4c hair were not working for this CHEMICAL curly perm. I learned quick by watching the youtuber AsiajaE and LorenSharice to combat the Excessive shedding. Overall, AsiajaE gives wonderful advice. However, I only FINGER DETANGLE NATURAL and CURLY PERM hair. AsiajaE uses a wide tooth comb. Also, I had a curly perm/Jherri curl (Aint no shame in my game) in the 80's, when I was 7-10 years old. I didn't know the hair maintenance routine, but I knew my hair wasn't coming out. I do remember that Jherri curls OF THE 80'S went out of style due to the messiness, not shedding. The CURLY PERMS OR JHERRI CURLS OF TODAY ARE NOT MESSY like yesteryear's 80's perm. This generation is doing too much to the curly perm CHEMICAL treatment which is causing all of the damage and EXCESSIVE SHEDDING. Sometimes, you would hear of people "reversing," or straightening their hair, in the 80's, with the chemical but not when it's already damaged. Reversing the hair was sparsely done and we definitely didn't place braids or sew ins on the hair in the 80's. MISTAKES: Mistake #1: Your natural hair was already heat damaged, so you should have repaired or grew out the heat damage before getting this "CHEMICAL" in your natural hair. #2 Once the hair is weakened and began to shed, you placed braids (via sew in/box) on your weakened hair. Braids of any style is not a protective style for curly perms. The sheer weight of the added hair causes even more excessive breakage. The most beneficial protective style to wear is a wig and simply wearing your hair up to protect your ends. #3 You length checked by adding direct heat to already shedding damaged heat hair. Less is more with the Jherri curl/Curly perm. Use the curly perm moisturizing products to keep the hair moisturized, once or twice per week. Listen to your hair. They don't leave a mess like they did in the 80s. To protect the hair, use gentle clips during the day to pin the hair up off the shoulders. Use a wig to let the hair rest. In my opinion, at most, use a pick to lift the roots or to fluff, during those once a week or two weeks that you want to wear your hair down. I wash and deep condition my hair once per week and use a restorative SPRAY leave in conditioner after wash and on a daily basis. I'm Still on this CHEMICAL CURLY PERM HAIR JOURNEY. Right now, I will chronicle my hair. If my hair continues to flourish with the curly perm, I'll create a channel to help others. The other two youtubers don't post as often about their curly perm anymore. Good luck to everyone on their journey to long healthy hair!! Sincerely trying to help, Your Hair Auntie (Notice that I didn't endorse any BRAND of curlyperm. It doesn't matter which curly perm bc it's all the same chemical used)

I watched alot of "curly perm" vids and can tell you without a doubt that it's not heat damage that destroyed your ends. It was the curly perm. It's worse than a relaxer. The damage starts immediately! I think it's because the hair is processed twice.

What is the process of curly perm and how do you keep it moisturized?
@jaj47062 жыл бұрын
Nice! I think these new age girls are getting the wn ans still treating it like néw age and natural hair … you can’t use natural hair products, straighten the hair or wear the curls dry. In the old days I got the curl only used curl product line ans kept it moisturized and hair grew like crazy. I think some stylists are at fault too for not processing it correctly or explaining proper hair care. Anyway. I joined the wn club this year. Had great experience with curls as kid and my mom did too for 20 years so here we go!

Thanks for the video. I've been natural since 2013, I'm so over it, yup getting a curl and I can't wait. Sorry my natural ladies, I'm not a natural girl. You shouldn't do a sew in or braids with a curl. Nor should you ever straighten your hair.

What a gorgeous young lady! So question is the curly perm actually a perm? And did it need constant moisture and did you have to touch it up?

Thank you! And yes , you could just use moisturizing products and you could decide to touch up any new growth if it becomes too noticeable

@sachikatt795 жыл бұрын
Latisha, you should get a touch up about every 6 months or so. This hair does require moisture, but you shouldn't use keratin on it. That causes breakage.
@maridonaldson51164 жыл бұрын
because the curly perm requires so much moisture, did having these protective styles cause more breakage? also how did your hair respond after straightening the curly perm? did it revert regularly?
@ravenunique4 жыл бұрын
My curly perm started breaking off wearing it naturally but when my roots got too noticeable I straightened my hair once and yes it reverted back. I saw how thin it got though so I did sew ins and that helped me grow my hair back out.

I’m about to relax my wave nouveau permed hair. It’s been six ninth since I got the wave nouveau and I’m ready fir a change. My hair shed like crazy, my hair line vanished. Thankfully it come back now, but it was scary for a minute there. I documented my journey on my KZbin channel. I would highly not recommend the wave nouveau curly perm
@lovelota63344 жыл бұрын
Why don't you try Japanese thermal for your touch up rather than relaxer? If the relaxer touches the wave nouveau your hair will break off more. Talk to Gina at Hairs Talent for suggestions.

Curl's were very popular in the 80's, but people left the chemicals alone in 2000's. So we going backwards again and not loving the true us struggling with our image again! You worried about length definitely better take good care of it or you will be bald ask the 40 and older crowd.
