I am currently transitioning and I think the natural hair community is filled with ignorant bullies. All they do is speak down to others who aren't like them. It's sad to see that something as small as hair can divide us so easily.
@herpderpy94456 жыл бұрын
Alejandra E. You made a valid point about versatility. However, it was lost in all of the venom and hubris you just had to spit out at the same time. For all your implied intellectual superiority, you can't even grasp the common sense notion behind the adage "You catch more bees with honey". No, if you were really that intelligent and cared about other people's hair journeys, you would be constructive and list more benefits of natural hair instead of being condescending and using this conversation as an apparent ego boost. I'm 35 and have been natural all but 4 years in my life, so I won't be a hypocrite. I made choices for my hair and they weren't out of any kind of hatred of my heritage. My family was very pro-black and pro-natural, as am I. But the choices I made for changing my texture were simple teenaged experimentation - nothing more, nothing less. I eventually transitioned and never looked back. Hair in some cases can be that deep, but not always. I hope you'll come to understand that one day instead of being so derogatory and divisive in a community that's already so incredibly historically fragmented to begin with. You really did more harm than good Sis.

This is called a Curl Reformation, which is a different process from a permanent wave (perm). Perms are for straight here and the curl reformation straightens the hair to reform the curl into something more uniform (depends on the shape of the rod). Curl reformation is also known as a jerry curl sis. Drippity drop
@ravenunique7 жыл бұрын
Duh
@TheBabycaykes7 жыл бұрын
Ammoniumthioglycolate is the chemical used for this process which is the same chemical used in a "perm"( which this is). You can call it curl reformation because the original curl pattern has to be removed and hair straightened prior to curl pattern creation. There is no need for curl activator or any greasy products. That was an 80's preference, never has it been required. Seems like you should research prior to attacking people on youtube with your pseudo- knowledge. Probably need a job, cause clearly you need something to do Sis.

Anyone can go to a cosmetology school and ask for a spiral perm, if your hair is longer. If your hair is shorter ask for a 9 row perm. But the school instructor will be able to see your hair length and tell the student stylist what kind of perm to give u

So much negativity it looks cute. Also I judge natural hair by this standard: it is your hair with no added hair to it lol. I don't know why Jherri curls get such a bad rep. When I look at black hair in the 80's compared to black hair in the 90's its like night and day. Jherri curls looked so full and luscious while relaxers looked all flat and stiff. I'm sure the products to maintain the curl perm are much better than all the mineral oil and glycerin products used in the 80's. Just like nobody is really using Pink lotion anymore lol.

@disneytoysr4fun9756 жыл бұрын
What's wrong with a updated Jherri curl? When I look back at black hair from the 80's it was much healthier and longer than the flat relaxed hair of the 90's and 2000's. Plus I doubt she's gonna be spritzing activator in her hair when we have so many new moisturizing products for black hair like shea moisture etc.
@lilajswagerriffic6 жыл бұрын
I personally would never go back to a "curl" You hair always had to stay wet not moisturized. So if you had long hair like I did your shirt will be stained from the curl activator and gel and you had to sleep with a plastic cap or your pillows will be stained as well. The chemicals they used to process your hair was very strong. I had friends who got headaches from the smell.Now I dont know how strong the chemicals they used for this new technique but the jeri curl would process your hair just like a perm.If you are natural and your thinking about this done to your hair. Please do your homework Find out what kind of chemicals they used and if your hair is able to revert back.

I didn't like how thin my hair had became the heat of the relaxer, every now & then a scab....smh I was tired of it & I get tired of the natural but I prefer it. It's her hair and if it don't work out, she'll be back but for now let her live. But that is a Jeri curl tho lol
@jaj47062 жыл бұрын
It’s not the “jherri curl” because that was made by a different person with different chemicals but it is basically the same concept. Wave nouveau came out in the 80s along with all the other brands (Hawaiian silky, care free curls, etc etc) and has never left. But many of you were unaware because the relaxer (straight hair) became popular in the 90s and you didn’t know your grannies were using the curl. Lol. I had the curl as a child for 3 years. Great thick healthy hair. Decided to try it again (in 2022) for a low maintenance look. It’s hard to find many using it today and positive comments but so many people are trying to get curl then wear it dry and use non curl perm products then complain about damage. I just think if you commit to a curl u commit to moist hair using curl perm products. And yes that means a few nights in a plastic cap (after perming to seal in moisture) but you can transition to a silk cap. You shouldn’t be using products you used from your natural days or whatver and especially products with alcohol and other chemicals that dry out your curl. If you have a lot of damage ans shedding and you’re keeping it moisturized it might be over processed (might be your stylist). My mom had the WN 15-20 years no damage and waist length healthy hair. So it can be done. Best of luck to everyone out there trying this and all the best to everyone regardless of what path you take for your own hair journey.

people tripping it has always been called a curly perm in Caucasian life, that's what they did to get curly hair big hair in 80's this wave noveau is not new it has the same name as back in the day.....less drip more like a leisure curl is what they called it
@hondaking8996 жыл бұрын
Hmmm this “curly perm” ain’t nothing but a Jerry curl from back in the day. This perm just stripped the volume right out of her hair, very stringy. Although there is less frizz the hair is limp and lifeless appearing. Idk maybe it will puff up when it’s dry but all she had to do was the Hydration method to revitalize her curl pattern. To each is own....not natural anymore though....
@jackies69946 жыл бұрын
Honda King I thought it came out pretty decent. I've been natural for two years but I can't blame someone for wanting to change their curls to something easier to manage. No I’m back all natural , I didn’t flat iron my hair with the perm I only did once when it started to grow out then I switched to protective styles until I reached my goal

What’s the neutraliser that you used? I’d like to start doing own hair at home, my hair dresser charges me an arm and a leg for my perms 😭😭

Is her hair dry at the end? I don't think I've seen one of these videos where they showed the finished, dry outcome. I want to know what it looks like when completely done. Does it just have a wet look when dried?

Tell me... How badly does it damage the hair? I was thinking about getting one done, but I like how my hair is now, and new growth is a pain to worry about.

So question for all Can us black women just use a “white girl” perm instead of a black girl perm since they get opposite results or is that what she put it a “white girl perm”

All I want to know is why did she wash the hair before the curly perm?doesn't it burns like a relaxer would do?
@marie41396 жыл бұрын
Do you just let it air dry. What do you use to maintain the pattern? How long does this last?
@ravenunique6 жыл бұрын
It’s permanent , check out my Wash Day video on how I did my hair!

She obviously wants her natural hair back, but what I don’t understand is why she changed her original hair texture to one that is a looser Jheri curl if she wanted her NATURAL hair which this style is also chemically altering ( a curl reformation) she could’ve done a big chop instead 🤔
@ravenunique6 жыл бұрын
I wanted my natural hair to be a looser curl pattern.

I’m about to relax my wave nouveau permed hair. It’s been six ninth since I got the wave nouveau and I’m ready fir a change. My hair shed like crazy, my hair line vanished. Thankfully it come back now, but it was scary for a minute there. I documented my journey on my KZbin channel. I would highly not recommend the wave nouveau curly perm.

Were you using wn or other curly perm products (care free, Hawaiian silky. Etc)? I’ve seen many trying to use other products that likely don’t mesh with a curl perm and contain Alcohol and other drying agents. Also I’ve seen some stylists over process. And people trying to wear it dry when it’s not a dry curl. I know it can grow healthy hair - my mom had waist length hair and had this 20 years or so. I had healthy hair no damage when I had it as a child as well
