I leave my hair alone. I literally didn’t know how long my hair was till today. It’s super thick now too. I have single braids in and wash and condition in the braids. The key is leaving it alone like everyone says. My hair went from my ears to almost the middle of my back in a yr. I never had a wash and go and I don’t want to start doing those but boy I can wait to do it just once lol. My hair is super curly. Never been this curly my entire life.

Yessss!! I’d like to add this: And in “leaving it alone”, we still have to take care of it. Many ppl think that once you Protective style it, that’s it. No, we need to stay AHAED of the dryness but moisturizing it every couple of days.

I am currently taking zinc, vitamin D, omega - 3, and I’m incorporating more protein in my diet nowadays. I also use a henna treatment (with essential oils) 1 - 2 times a month on a wash day. I am seeing great results. It’s so amazing how small lifestyle changes can make a huge difference in hair health.

I'm 33 years vegan, over 10 years gluten-free, and 22 years into my natural hair journey. My family's mixed ancestry is visible in the variety of textures my hair has. I try to do as little as possible to my hair: shampoo, condition, oil, however, my styling is mainly a small selection of uncomplicated up-dos. My 2 biggest problems with my hair have been: Finding someone, who knows how to cut it, and I only want it to be all one length; no one seems to know how to do that, EXTREMELY frustrating. Finding gluten-free, vegan products that actually nourish and support my hair health, and growth; so many products just coat, and are ultimately counterproductive. Thank you for all of your videos, particularly those that name the ingredients we should seek, and those we should avoid. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us this way.

Workout everyday. I have 4b high porosity hair and I also take my twist out and wash weekly never skipping prepoo and deep condition and Acv rinse. And I moisturize my twist every other day. Hi Curly Chemistry, I just want to say how much that I appreciate your videos on hair care. Apart from the abundance of valuable information and hair tips, it is the fact that you condense it all in such an accessible and joyful manner. I am white, so my hair type I imagine is a bit different from most of your community. But, I have learnt so much from you and have started things like scalp massage , rosemary oil and drinking teas on your recommendations. I am loosing a bit less hair and in general feel more positive. Your science background is very impressive and once again thank you for this wonderful channel.

I’m post menopause and 21 months natural. Consistent and Plenteous Moisture is the key for me and it begins with Prepoo the night before wash day (coconut oil and SheaMoisture Intensive conditioner). Wash day is: Hydrating Shampoo, Protein treatment, deep conditioning, aloe vera spray followed by leave-in and then wash-n-go products. I moisturize every day with Pattern Moisture Milk until apx 2-3 days before wash day when I switch to the heavier TGIN Daily Moisturizing Cream. I throw in an ACV rinse every so often as well as Pattern Cleansing Shampoo once every 2 months or more often depending on how heavy handed I’ve been with products that week. I am all about wash-n-go’s until Winter And I leave it alone all week!! No combing, No banding, No detangling, No edge control stuff, No making sections to moisturize…Nothing!! Most importantly, I take a load of supplements including D3, Collagen, Mushroom Complex, Zinc, B12 and B-complex, glucosamine, folic acid, etc. My hair is healthy, super thick and has grown like crazy. A very spontaneous and unplanned Big Chop at 6 months natural left me with only 6” of length. My strands are now 13+” (bra strap length in back) and top of bra (where the cup dips down in front!). I trimmed my ends for the 1st time since going natural 2 weeks ago. Also - I drink water, water, water all day and scalp massages every morning and night (before I wrap and bonnet). 🙂

I’m really intentional how I handle my hair because I learned many years ago I was not caring for my hair properly. However, sometimes when I massage my scalp it gets very sore, tender and feels like it’s burning. I do the oils, moisturizing shampoo/conditioners, leave in to keep my hair healthy, but still sometimes not all the time I experience the discomfort.

So if you don’t have very tightly curled hair, but still have black hair (wavy) should you still oil your hair every 1-2 days? All this stuff about how often to oil is so confusing l. Some say only on wash days and others say never

I really don’t know what you mean with wavy hair. Most black People don’t have wavy hair. If your hair is not textured (yt people wavy) you wouldn’t want to oil your scalp every 1-2 days since your will appear oily.
