This seems like a trend with pokemon cards. Some sort of thing happens to bring them into the public eye again (like in 2015, when Logan Paul started making videos on it). After they become popular big time, all the stores get bought out and the average guy can’t afford them anymore, so people stop buying. Eventually they return back to normal prices, because people don’t buy as much. Maybe the increase of price is from the release of pokemon pocket, it seems to have brought a ton of new collectors into the hobby.

Totally agree Tonsa! it does seem like a pattern! I think it’s a combination of a lot of things that’s causing this most recent wave. Pokemon pocket for sure! Social media live streaming and the 151 set play a big role too. They’ve brought a lot of us back into the hobby after a long break. Coming from a magic the gathering background, I’d say that TCG’s in general have all seen some significant growth over the past couple years even in game play. So I think that’s making it surge too.
