Now that you've listened to The Place I Feel Safest, the intro to The Way It Ends can make more sense as he refers to the place he feels safest was never really there at all and just sets up for the next chapter that is that album so perfectly. Im enjoying your journey with Currents. I too wanna bump I Let The Devil In EP. Cheers

This one holds a special place to me. I was working for a metal-magazine when this album came out and was asked to review it, none of us had ever heard of Currents before. This album very lyrically driven and focuses on the chaos and darker aspects instrumentally. ILTDI and TWIE build on the melodies and maturity in the instrumentals.

You are describing how I feel about Currents perfectly... some songs just hit after 4th or 7th listen... and then you add them to loop. Personally I vibed with Monsters from the start, but like you said with Place I Feel Safest and their new single The Death We Seek (btw it has sick outro, so much emotion) just gets better and better after a while, but not right away peculiar :D
@Austinwevo

A lot going on in their music is probably the biggest part of it. Once you can listen to it all individually & simultaneously, it hits super hard. I don’t have that issue but I have noticed people do.

And the crazy thing is I and so many others got into them from The Death We Seek. Now I love literally everything they've put out. Just crazy how consistent they are with putting out great music. And it's not consistent as in all their records sound the same or generic or they follow a formula like a lot of other bands that I won't name, no all of their records have a distinct sound and even if I wear myself out of one record, I can easily jump to the next, which does happen a lot because I listen to them so much😂😂 Sorry for talking so much, especially on a comment 3 months later, hope all is well for you. Also dude Dreamer and Delusions may be my favorite two tracks off the album along with forget me.

I had almost the same perspective, first listen on this album and The Way It Ends fanboy. Every song made it to my playlist. So I know that this album is sick but it's just too much to process at the first listen. Gave me the feeling when i first time listened to Breakdown of Sanity - Perception album, because it's almost causing a headache after some time where all these small things happen and the riffs/breakdowns are so diverse with so much details.

Great reaction, dude! Now that you've listened to it a bit more (I presume), what are your thoughts on it? This album is definitely the more aggressive/angry type from them, and I think going into it with that in mind would've helped. Also, "I let the devil in" is a great mix between this and TWIE, so I think you'll love it. I can't wait to watch when it comes out! Just remember to listen to it when the time is right and don't force yourself into it. It's easy to want to go straight into something when there's a lot of hype for it, but that can also make your experience worse (at least in my opinion).

Sick album, also, depending on your camera, you can change the focusing mode to be what's closest to the lens for focusing on things like your arm. Otherwise, it may just be on eye autofocus on center weighted focus to focus on what is in the middle. (I am a professional photographer and would be happy to help if need be but you can probably youtube it) It may be helpful to switch it off of auto focus as well if it just stays in the one spot and then you just have to move your arm to be about where your eys would be so that spot is always in focus.

I still love The Way It Ends more, I feel like it’s more mature on pretty much all ends, instrumentally, vocally, songwriting, etc. But that doesn’t take anything away from The Place I Feel Safest in my opinion, which’s a great album nonetheless, especially when you take the time it came out into consideration. Currents have been putting out top tier metalcore for years now, one of the best bands out there for sure

I disagree on "instrumentally". TWIE is much simpler in terms of riffing and drumming, which is not a bad thing per se, i actually really liked TWIE as well. But the complex riffs in TPIFS are mind-blowing, still 5 years later.

@@sirdo946 I think it can go either way, when I say “better instrumentally” I’m not referring only to the complexity of riffs, drumming, bass lines, it’s also how it all comes together, and other stuff as well. Yeah you make a good point about riffs and melodies. This album was way more riff focused (and i prefer it for that) in terms of all the background melodies, little complexities and variation. While TWIE is more focused on the big choruses and hooks, as you said, without completely disregarding the mind-blowing riffage but it takes a huge step back compared to this album. I'm way more into the complex riffing rather than stadium-ish wide hooks so TPIFS is far superior to TWIE for me but as you said, i found myself very deep into TWIE when it came out, just random parts of the songs (even some that i didn't think i liked a lot, like A Flag To Wave which would generally be kinda basic for me) would come to my mind and i'd start singing them lol. TWIE is TPIFS a bit simplified and more catchy (in a way, more sellable as well) but they make both work soooo fucking well. Unlike other metalcore bands which went in simplier directions without actually managing to make it work and just being unoriginal.
