Have you started your homeschool yet? What subject are you looking forward to the most this year?

We also study one country at a time using a lot of Lonely Planet books, chapter books, picture books, poetry books, atlases, videos and documentaries, recipes, Spotify playlists and such and it has been so much fun! One of the African countries that we have studied so far was Madagascar and it was so much fun as the plant and animal life there are fascinating! And we too hope to get to most countries before my son graduates!

It is fun! It is hard to stay in one place when it is all so exciting. My daughter chose Africa for this year and now she is chomping at the bit to do Europe. Presently we are doing Canada and still planning to do Africa next. Europe will be next year!:)

In case you’re interested, I just saw that Wide Eyed press is releasing a children’s book called Africana in October. Their books are beautiful, so it might be worth looking into.

I didn’t know you were in Canada. :) we are doing a deep dive in geography this year. I actually sent letters to the a bunch of letters to US embassies for each of the countries. Some sent some packs back with maps and resources.

Wow, how did you get the embassies' addresses? Was this US or Canadian embassies? I really want to do this!!
@LisaRupertus2 жыл бұрын
@@megancunningham9471 I just googled them. I did US but it might be similar in other countries

I feel like we are very similar with our homeschool style and have chosen similar curricula this year. We also added HAW and decided to nix GH geography for the same reason. We are also still doing their language arts and grammar as well. We also are doing Amazing Africa, and I've been interested in adding something to it. I saw the Gather Round but think it will be too much for us. I'm absolutely going to check out the African Folktales though! I can't wait to see all of your updates!

Yes, we are definitely going to share experiences this year! What is HAW? I feel like I should know, but cannot think what it is:)

@@WhimsicalFamilyLife Sorry, I mean Hundred Acre Wood. But really, it should be A Year in the Hundred Acre Wood. I was being lazy since my message was so long. 😂

Our theme is Harry Potter this year too! The boys are so excited and keep coming up with new unit study ideas as we go. They have me looking for bat, snake, and spider books 🤦🏼♀️

I liked the idea of Gather Round but it was heavily Christian, it seemed woven into everything. It lead me to discover Layers of learning which I much prefer. They have an African unit and it's very cheap!

@@jennwilkes3093 I'm glad I could help! I haven't tried the Canadian units yet but so far everything I've seen from them is well made so I assume it would be the same even though they're American!
