Today we are looking at a 6-port parallel charge board from HGLRC. I used to be a bit scared of parallel charging because of some incidents with some cheap board with no protection. The Thor boards aim to make parallel charging as safe as it can be, so let's go through some of the do's and don'ts of parallel charging as we look at the product.
(if you are a regular viewer and are wondering where I've been for the last month and a half... the answer is "mostly ill")

Very good boards. At 8:50 you mention the red light and no protection. On the back of the board is stated: "Battery Balancing Connector Protection: There is an indication of LED when Self-resetting in short circuit situation in thermal fuses between every balancing pin.". If I'm correct every balance wire is protected by a Poly-fuse, mounted on the back of the PCB. The fuse comes in if they overheat. After cooling down they work again.

It does say that, but I tested it by leaving the short circuit connected for a few minutes and I managed to get some smoke out of it - which seems that the protection could be better

@@CurryKitten Thanks for the warning. From the 1000 times of charging there was 1 time when I was distracted during plugging the connectors and the red LED and the large fuse saved my LiPo packs.

Excellent review. Today I still have a great hesitation to using parallel charging ports. But I certainly see the advantage. I currently have several chargers that will do four batteries simultaneously.

Good video, thanks for the tip about the balance leads. I just hover in my room for about 3 minutes to discharge. I cans see the Velcro fuzz on the back of your batteries.Do you use Velcro on your drones? Or do you use these batteries for your goggles ?

i was charging 2 2s 8000mah batterys @16a on this board and one of the hardcase batteries popped and blew the case off with swollen lipos. Should i have charged at say 12a to be safe?
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten 17 күн бұрын
If you've done everything correct - cells within 0.1v of each other then it should be safe to charge at 16A in that setup. I think the trouble is with a parallel board, that if something does go wrong for whatever reason, you only find out when something more serious happens

Thanks for the video! Do you think the HOTA D6 Pro could charge 9.3A for parallel charging 6 1550mah lipo HV at the same time?
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
I think so, I don't have one - but looking at the watts per channel, I think they could do around 10ish Amps at 6S voltage

How does balancing work while parallel charging

All the cell 1s of each battery are treated as 1 big cell. Ditto with the other cells. This is one of the reasons it’s important that all the cells in all the batteries are within 0.1v of each other

hey if I have 5x1500mAH and 1x1050mAH battery does that mean I can set the charger to 5*1.5+1=8.5C? theyre all 6S
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
Although it may be possible to do, I personally would mix my capacities of lipos, so I'd charge the 5 x 1500mAh at 7.5A to stay at 1C and charge the 1050mAh seperately

Checking batteries are balanced pre charging?. None of mine are...and you storage charged them to make them suitable candidates for parallel charging..?...Did I miss something...🤔😳😳🇬🇧
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
Yeah - I did cover that. Each cell on each lipo needs to be within 0.1v of each other and I mentioned storage charging my lipos so that I'd expect them to all be suitable. Or are you saying something else ?
