Nice 'hat-trick' at 5:00 ... demoing all 3 vehicles at same time! The SUV looks like lots of fun. The SUV side-to-side wobble likely more related to the high centre of mass with the camera up high. Suspension needs to be soft enough to allow independent wheel travel on rough ground, but stiffer if going faster. Perhaps two sets of springs might help? (or a spring that had both softer and harder compression within its travel distance) Think it would be amazing if could integrate a camera interior to the vehicle, so mass was much lower. (pop-off from wind-shield to reveal camera). As for RF signal, this a tricky problem, given vehicles small size (thus small battery size) and the monstrous scale of obstacles. Wonder if could use local wifi network to send video? It would need an adaptor for FPV goggles, but could also allow more options. (eg: using big screen TV vs. FPV goggles, so would open up size of consumer market). BTW: a good measure of speed would be "car-lengths per second" .. it's fully scaleable. ;)
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
I talked with friends about binding 2 quads at once and then attempting to fly them - but the likelihood of injury there is high :D I think the centre of gravity is definitely a factor, but it's slight tricky in integrate the camera inside the body... especially if they want to go the route of a camera that pops on and off. As for the FPV/Control distance - there's a balance to that. With a car of this size it doesn't need to go to far, but a little further would help. But it's of course an issue of increasing power means consuming more power and generating more heat... and potentially overheating. Wifi could be done, but is going to feel quite laggy on a car like this. But SNT are developing things quite rapidly, so who knows where we'll be in 6 months time!
@AerialWaviator Жыл бұрын
@@CurryKitten All great points. Is fascinating the tradeoff made in design constraints at this scale. Maybe you can find a friend that has a similar scale model railroad setup that would approve of a little 'off-road' navigation. That could be a fun experience.

Could do with a little damping - tiny bit of soft sponge added in the coils may do it
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
Yeah - that's what it needs, it's not so much the strength of the spring, its the fact there's nothing to dampen it out... and hence stop the wobble quicker. Hopefully they'll do something for the production run

I think the off roader looks less like it's at sea with the camera at the back, the more body in view breaks the image up. Ruby/OpenHD racing would rock! I wanted something a little more practical than my massive 1/4 scale ruby truck so working on a 1/10 off road buggy at the moment and nearly done, its got ardupilot and ruby on it, its a 540 brushed motor at the moment but I have a brushless setup on order. Your eachine would be a good candidate, especially if you upgraded to oil filled shocks and a brushless motor :)
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
I had Open.HD running on a 1/10th scale car to start with along with iNav, but my RTH went weird and ended up reversing away from me :) I think this tiny car is too small to allow any HD stuff in there though
@stevefox3763 Жыл бұрын
@@CurryKitten You should give Ardupilot Rover a try, an order of magnitude better than Inav! I know the EC30 is a smaller 1/14 scale but i think you could squeeze HD in it, on my HPI 1/10, i have mounted everything lengthways down the chassis with everything mounted on the center chassis support bar that goes between the Diffs and have the 1w 2.4ghz i use for video on a mount i printed to attach to the rear of the mast the rear spoiler is on. Banggood appear to have already stopped selling the EC10??

OMG. That's wild. I had no idea that they made these tiny little things with that level of sophistication, suspension and like an actual _driveshaft_ ? What's next?........... Disc brakes? I'm about ready to grab some and break out the dslr for a diorama. At 55 I'm laughing at the absurdity and the fact that I want one. Set a huge throttle control in your radio and dial it way down to allow you to 'crawl' the 4x4 up obstacles!
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
They do seem to have improved the throttle control in the new one (I released a video about it this week) they are fun to capture the absurdity of the scale. Especially with a small f-stop they look really like a proper sized 4x4 in a massive environment :)

Yeah - the little cars are lots of fun to race around with friends, but for just going off and exploring, you can't beat the little crawlers
@seancook4317 Жыл бұрын
yeah the weak springs are so the suspention can travel properly, the cars are so small now and light its hard to make the wheel move rather than the wheel and body because it doesnt weigh enough to compress the springs. ALSO it look more "to scale" when the trucks moving slow so people like it that way usually (not hard core competition crawlers, most of those guys dont use springs at all)
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
The new Wrangler version does stiffen up the springs a bit - but as you say, they can only go so far before the tiny car can't compress them any more

Nice vid, Does it have a crawling slow speed and what is the full turning radius circle? (i wanted it to drive and weave in very small spaces on desk etc)
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
It doesn't go really slow. Whilst there's range in the throttle - it's not a massive range. I haven't measured the turning radius, probably about 10" to get all the way around. Driving around my desk I was doing a lot of reversing to and fro to get around very tight spaces.

Really just want the camera for my slot car track, BUT- I'm not against owning one of these to play with tho.... Do we know what MOVIE format it records in? How long? Video resolution?
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, sounds like you want something a little different. These don't record, they simply send the video wirelessly to your FPV goggles/screen/whatever. So the resolution is 640x480, but the recording format (which would be handled by a DVR in the goggles/screen) is dependent on the model. It sounds like what you want to do is stick a tiny HD recording camera on your cars and record it? Even 9 years ago we got 60fps at 720p see this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4aTn6Ota8hmaMk&ab_channel=CurryKitten so you are likely to find some very small 4k cameras by now which could work

I bought into the SNT cars after watching your last video ( the one with your daughter and you trying them out). I tried to build a track, but I found the cars just too erratic, the steering and throttle are too sensitive to make then really useable RC's, IMO. I'm selling the cars. That said, the new SUV looks much more promising, and the speed and steering seem much more suitable. I will be looking for the market version ! Thanks for the video !
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
Sorry you never got on with the racing cars - they can certainly be erratic at full throttle, but we managed to get pretty reliably control by going less fast (and I think my paper-based course helped with the grip from that particular video) The SUV certainly won't run away with you - I do hope they manage to do something about the springs wobble in the production run though
