This is a practical course where educators learn to implement the innovative in-class flip approach, which combines the benefits of applying flipped learning within the classroom setting (whether it is virtual, physical or hybrid) with different student-centered practices.
In this comprehensive course on in-class flip, participants will explore the fundamental role of mindset in successful flipping, recognizing the importance of adopting a growth mindset as both educators and learners. They will gain a clear understanding of the distinction between Flipped Learning and In-Class Flip, examining the advantages and limitations of each approach and determining their applicability in diverse educational contexts. The course will delve into the two primary types of in-class flip: in-situ and station work lessons, enabling participants to design engaging and interactive activities for classroom sessions. Additionally, participants will learn the essential steps in planning an in-class flip, considering the selection and or creation of flipped materials and effective in-class activities. With a focus on instructional design, the course will equip participants with the skills to create compelling and concise flipped instructions and content, utilizing multimedia elements to promote student comprehension and motivation. Moreover, participants will have a taste of the art of sketchnoting to visually represent content and enhance its impact. The course will delve into strategies for differentiating the in-class flip, tailoring instruction to accommodate diverse learning needs and abilities, and fostering an inclusive learning environment. Lastly, participants will explore the design of both physical and digital in-class flips, enabling them to implement these approaches seamlessly in their educational settings. Through this course, participants will emerge as proficient practitioners of flipped learning, equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools to optimize student engagement, learning outcomes, and overall educational experience.
This course is taught by one of the authors of the book "In-Class Flip: A Student-Centered Approach to Differentiated Learning". Participants will be provided with a copy of the ebook as the primary resource for pre-course reading and preparation of the sessions. This hands-on practical course goes from theory to practice as it the teacher provides feedback and guidance of her extensive experience with this approach.
