Sorry to do it like this, but I've been using this addon recently, and really love it. However it's last version is unable to work if the GP is constrained. I've found a fix to that but cannot contact the developer. Can you do so for me? Let them know that using the gpencil object's `.matrix_world.to_translation()` will give a vector of the origin's position after the constraint. So we can fix this issue by using this for the `gporigin` value.

@@SpitfireStoryboards Hey thanks, another thing is that I'm not quite sure what your concept was, but for the `center option` I think we can use the Gpencil's Bounding box. Blender calculates the bbox for the gpencil every frame, thus finding the center of all the strokes is simply finding the center of the bbox which is basically just 8 verts. So we don't need to loop through all of the strokes and all of the points on a stroke. I suppose in the case where you only one a specific layer to be summed up.... it makes sense . In any case I'm looking into auto aligning the cursor to the camera view every time it snaps. But have nothing at the moment, and I do need to finish my animatic soon. Anyway Merry Christmas(or Happy Holidays).

Great commercial for this addon and to showcase your methods. But, it takes an animator with a directors eye to execute such animatics. Never-the-less, it is exciting to watch you flesh out the process and display how the animatic can be accomplished more efficiently by making the entire stroke layer as a single animated scene. Hopefully there will be an easy solution for the camera tracking position logging to the timeline. With Blenders extensive and evolving features set, it will be challenging to keep up with all the changes an enhancements. It's always fun to celebrate your discoveries and joy. 😁

im hyped to use this, but how does it compare to using 3d models as a base and parenting them, which work flow do you prefer?
@SpitfireStoryboards3 жыл бұрын
Both have their uses. I have stopped parenting to objects, for the reasons I address late in my Sci fi tutorial set : it creates codependencies and u have to always use the 3d model keys to animate your gp. If I use 3d characters now I tend to use them as a block out for reference but not parent. Cursor snapper is the complete opposite of parenting and object keying . It's a liberating way to work for some people . All of these approaches have their uses. Thanks for engaging . Let me know if u like this method .
@hellorgl53 жыл бұрын
Great idea! We're testing the addon at the minute, works great. A couple of suggestions/requests: 1) would be useful if it also rotated the 3D cursor to the correct angle - the current approach requires the camera to be locked and to always draw from the camera, which is a little limiting in some situations. It's not quite as simple as moving to the correct location, but certainly should be doable for planar drawings, if not deformed ones? 2) would be simpler to use if it worked with blender's existing ways of moving through time (scrubbing the timeline, using left/right, using up/down) rather than having its own standalone next/previous keyframe buttons. Is there any reason it can't run automatically whenever the frame changes? Other than that it's a really fun tool, definitely streamlines the GP workflow. Thanks!
@SpitfireStoryboards3 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for the detailed feedback. In response: point 1 , angle of cursor is already on the list for a feature. 2, I prefer that people have the option to not snap if they don't want to. The shift plus up down shortcut is simple enough . But , well look into it as an option perhaps, if its possible to make it auto. In v1 it just made is simpler to have an input . Thanks

This is an amazing add-on (and workflow video :) which single-handedly made mixing 2D and 3D make sense to me in Blender. As a hopefully small feature request: would it be possible to not just move the 3D cursor with this addon but also rotate it? When I place a 3D cursor in the scene I notice that it inherits the view angle, so I can rotate the drawing plane around while sketching an action without having to set-up cameras first. But when Cursor Snap places the cursor back onto a frame it doesn't change the rotation from whatever it was before, so the 3D cursor drawing plane option no longer matches. Perhaps a few of random vertices can also be subtracted to get the normal after it's done averaging the location?
@SpitfireStoryboards2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Really glad you like it. Thanks for the request. Yes indeed, in the pro version one of the features will be to make more of the 3d cursors rotation, and we will see what we can regarding keying those rotation for when we snap back . We have lots of cool features Ideas so look forward to the pro version in the future sometime (but it wont be for a while as Ed and I have been very busy)

@@SpitfireStoryboards In the video you spoke about not using object mode to change the position of a drawing, as it messes the whole thing up. Isn't that normal with grease pencil?

@@Miguel-ez6sh it depends what method u are using. In my other videos I use the characters like objects, moving them around in space . I refer to this as the object mode . Question for you about your process using this technique with finished animation. If you're doing a walk or run from the front or back, how do you address foot placement/sliding. Because if on every frame in a frontal walk, let's say, the grid steps forward, there's a problem. I guess one way to handle is by just using "view" mode and drawing on one plane for finished animation, essentially "copying" from the roughs. But, was wondering your process.
@SpitfireStoryboards3 жыл бұрын
Yeh stuff going directly away ot towards camera cN be tricky . I strongly suggest prepping it by using the dot path method to get yr positions first, or use 2 views so u can see where from the side too. Both methods shown in the video.
@hotchd13 жыл бұрын
Super impressive! I'm using the plugin, and it's really helpful. Question: You talk about starting off in "front" mode to do your roughs, and then switch to "view" when you get closer to tie-downs. Can you comment on this process? Haven't tried it yet, but it seems like it could be awkward and difficult reproducing drawings in "view" mode when the originals were done in "front", especially if the angle of the camera changes significantly. Also, I notice that when you draw in "front", for example, and then switch to "view", only subsequent drawings will abide by the new setting. Is there a way to make all drawings comply when moving from "front" to "view", or vice versa?
@SpitfireStoryboards3 жыл бұрын
These are good questions . What you've mentioned here is precisely why I treat that first pass as layout and I don't get too specific about nailing the artwork from a perspective . I keep it very loose. Once camera angle is established then yes for that initial change to view mode there is often a difference between the angle but there isn't much way around that. In terms of the angle of the artwork then facing camera then as long as you are in view mode, your new drawing will always face camera. However if u are talking about wanting to reproject the artwork to a new angle , u can also do that but it has to be frame by frame for view mode . I'm not sure if I have yet covered this in any of my vids but u go into edit mode, select the artwork then go up to grease pencil , clean up, reproject strokes , view . I've been meaning to put it in a quick tips video . I don't use it much its more for fixing mistakes

By the way : feel free to request any features you would find useful. There's a chance they are already being considered but if not, we are open to suggestions. Either drop them here or over in the Cursor Snapper channel on my discord.

can we just add coursor to object animation ? to auto follow ?
@SpitfireStoryboards3 жыл бұрын
Yes you could that. It would work well. U could use the GP Toolbox addon (search for it on KZbin) as that has a cursor follow option.
