Curtis Mayfield was a musical genius. His music along with a handful of others was the soundtrack of my entrance into adulthood. I’m 74 (almost) and still listen to cuts from the Superfly score. I still have a couple CM vinyls after all these yrs. His loss to the world was huge. RIP my brother.

"We're a Winner" is the first song I heard by Curtis Mayfield. Man what a time in Black music history. That song possessed such a strong sense of Black pride and a willingness to care for and help one another. I wish we felt that way about one another today😢 Rest in peace my brother ❤

I agree. CM had a gift to paint pictures of that era’s social climate with beautifully arranged vocals and music. His smooth falsetto voice was mesmerizing and full of hope for the future. Yes he was underrated. You can’t fully appreciate what you have until it’s gone. When I listen to him and others like Marvin Gaye, it brings me to tears… Yes, they were underrated. RIP my brother.

My oldest Brother went to Wells High School and Curtis would win every Talent Show . They were Friends and also Jerry Butler. They all came from the Northside of Chicago. Cabrini Greene had a lot of Talented People ! Curtis Music have an Awakening effect for Truth about Our Every Day Society ! There is a Street named for Him and Terry Collier . He was a Genius and didn't receive the Reconizion He Deserves. The Media felt it was to much Knowledge and Inspiration for people of Color !!!! To this Day I share His Music with my Children and Grands , and Great Grands . Anyone who Love Music should Listen to Him and the Impressions .... History in Sounds !!! Peace

His 1st wife, Helen, was a very good friend of my aunt and uncle (Mr and Mrs Jerry Butler) and I got to know her when my mother and I took a trip to Mexico that she organized. Favorite song back in the day obviously: *Superfly* . Darkest of night but the moon was shining bright, there a set going strong lot of things going. The man of the hour has an air of "great power", the dudes have been with him for so long *Superfly*. As a child i didn't know he was from Chicago but what he sang about i could see it all around me in every song. It's obvious to me he sang what he saw. I didn't admire the occupation of the characters in the song i admired the desire of the characters desire to be independent entrepreneurs freedom and coolest expression of being black in the 70's in America (it was the best and worst of times) and independence from the evil of wolves in sheep's clothing (the man). The means of the freedom he sought-after lead him to more boundage by the same man that supplied his occupation.
