I love it. Been carrying it constantly since it arrived. My only complaints are I wish it had another half inch of jumping and a pivot comes loose easily. Had to loctite it. The HRC is 63 64 and it's a really great work knife. I think the magnacut was done really well

Great video! I have had 3 Curtiss F3's since his move to the new setup and 2 have had problems. Sadly for me, getting these problems fixed is incredibly expensive and time consuming as I live in Australia. The blades have always been flawless and great heat treats, just the 1% issues really stand out like finishing issues and lockup drama at times. His medium F3 is amazing as a non flipper but I do feel his large is far better suited to flipper. Every single one of his older ones has been flawless. I firmly believe he is over stretched is all. He either needs to dial back his production or bring on more hands.

Thanks for choking in. Got a few other viewers from Australia also. I think you’re right, the quality has slipped and I’m hoping he can tighten that up and get back to where he was. It’s obviously not a HIM issue or he would have had issues since the beginning.

The quality control for these knives is really terrible. You can feel it when you handle them. I have previously owned several, and they all had loose pivots and lock stick. Something not mentioned in the video is how really thin the scales are due to both internal milling for weight reduction and external design milling, leaving the knives feeling flimsy.

I’m not sure I have the same opinion if it feeling flimsy, but yes I’ve heard lots of quality control issues.

I did pull the trigger on a Curtiss large wharncliffe flipper and try it for myself. We will see if the QC on mine will be ok?

I had a similar F3 similar to the one in this video, about a year before the knife here. It had a ton of QC problems. For example, the handle isn't clean and its covered in oil. I had a compound grind on mines and its lopsided. The worst part... there a large freaking pivot hole (waterjet entry hole) begins cutting scale, fnear the pivot/detent cutout. The edges are sharp and it isn't knockdown. This is almost the worst knife I have to date.

Looks much better without the flipper. His clip needs a update. I like spring clips but his clip has always looked out of place.
@DirkWerning

I get that. A nice milled clip would just add a bit of detail I think.

@@DirkWerning not even asking for that, just something about it’s designed doesn’t flow with his knife. It’s like the clips on my Hinderers but it’s too wide.

Dig the ano colors, Dirk. With that matching pocket, it just pops. $500.- or more?

Probably around that price. I’m not sure what Garey paid exactly.

Ugh. That seems to be the major issue with them is lockstick. I tried to use and break them in also but it tends to remain. Keep trying some pencil lead on the lock face.

@@DirkWerning I applied some Gunny Glide on the lock face but nothing has changed yet. Gunny Glide claims it has graphene in it so similar to lead pencil’s graphite. I am not hopeful.

Haven’t had any issues with quality from Curtis either. Don’t have one in my collection at the moment but definitely not opposed to adding one

I tried a medium F3 this year and was highly disappointed. Cool design, awful execution. Kicking myself for not heeding the warnings of others.

Love this knife👌 the other one was a bit on the smaller size for me and would love to try a slim tanto, that's gonna do it for me 😁 yeah right🤣 Great vid my friend, you should have gone on with the rambling.👍

Dirk, I appreciate your "rambling", it is insight from experience you have had with special knives and is helpful to hear, thanks! I recently added a very similar Curtis knife to my collection but with a flipper tab and a different milling pattern and anodizing color. The quality is great and I love the piece. These knives have a less refined fell than some other knives but the action and precision on mine is so good. I have the large slim version and it feels blade heavy but I wanted that so it would be a tighter and lighter package. I like it so much I plan to get a really specific medium version in the future with out the slim. It has it's worthy place in my collection..I do wish Curtis would put more work into a milled pocket clip with a flat surface under it, also more contoured handles (not just flat with chamfering). If he could do that engineering and execute it, I would happily pay a couple hundred dollars more for an F3 an the knife would be taken to the nest level. It is really good but has room to get even better! Thanks for showing this.
