If it did, it was only for the simple minded listeners. Many of us have been saying this non stop for years and going through the gauntlet of simple minds telling us we are wrong and not evolving... meanwhile we were the ones who were evolved the whole time. This was the case even during the Drake and Kendrick battle. Some people just could not understand how Kendrick was cooking Drake, they kept thinking it was a social media battle. I even brought this exact point of Nas vs Jay-Z to some cat like two weeks ago and he didn't get what I was trying to say at all. Glad Drake and Kendrick was able to help yall wake up and catch up....welcome to the party.

I’ve taken to buying albums on vinyl recently because none of this stuff on streaming is gonna live forever. One day it will disappear whether you “own” it or not. Servers don’t expand forever. I buy albums I love so that I can have it. Streaming is cool for now but most of the music feels disposable and forgettable. Because they have to give you enough content to justify your subscription.

@@nhinged I get where you are coming from with Eminem. However I think Eminem's first albums were great for many other reasons other than his drug abuse. His later albums didn't have Dre as involved (I personally loved Relapse) and also hip hop in general changed and Eminem got older. People said similar things with Mary J Blige when she was going through relationship problems and making music. Sometimes I think it's just your youth and hunger vs growing up and having all you need that affects the art. Either way I do support sobriety. Personally I miss the 80's hip hop that down played drug abuse and violence even though the artform itself did improve skill and music wise.

I keep saying we’re about to see some cultural shift in rap after some event that allows new grounds to be established (kinda like Kanye Vs 50 in 2007 phasing out gangster rap after graduation won). It really sounds like someone like a Kendrick wants to be the one to pioneer it on this song. Systems within rap culture need to be torn down and built anew. Artists need more integrity as people. And “journalists” who secretly are being puppeteered by some artists need to cease. He sounds tired. So am I. Lol

Yo, I gotta say, I'm a bit biased, but I truly believe that TDE is the greatest record label of the past 15 years. Everything they put out is top-notch quality, from the music videos to the sound, the messages, and the range of artists they cater to. They've got something for everyone, from the young'uns to the history buffs. And let's not forget about their R&B artists. They're highly respected, and if you want to make it big in the music industry, you better get yourself a session with a TDE artist or producer. From Zacari to SiR to SZA, all the way to ALI and Kal Banks, they're keeping hip-hop and R&B alive and thriving. And let's give a shoutout to SchoolBoy and Ab-Soul, the OGs who are masters of the penmanship craft. But the real secret sauce behind TDE is PUNCH. His insights are like Yoda's wisdom. He deserves all the flowers and recognition for his contributions.

How many movies dropped and were considered flops at the time based on “replay value, or numbers”? Shawshank redemption, Moonlight, Seven, Fight Club, shit The Iron Giant still my favorite animated movie. All that to say the art that makes the biggest leap in impact and influence doesn’t necessarily resonate with the minds of that time. Because lets be frank us as humans are either not at the point in our lives to understand and appreciate some needed lessons and mental expansions. Or simply don’t have the bandwidth to comprehend the complex duality of human nature causing the route of pacification to just feel better. I cherish the awareness, insight, and growth I gained from watching Moonlight once more so than the laughs and distractions I get from the many times I’ve rewatched Friday.
