For me Custard Pie is one of the most underrated Zeppelin tunes that didn't get nearly enough live time when the original band were together - they were clearly trying to make up for this in '96....

They could've easily placed in the setlist in the 75, 77 or 80 tours especially in 77. Cut out the long drum and bow/thermin guitar solos and either play that or Wanton Song or For your life in between after Kashmir or Trampled Underfoot and before Achilles last stand and Stairway.

I heard that plant said that it's okay when two have a romance to let them go off, meaning he and page. This in reaction of not including Jones. I agree. But they also said they did nog include Jones cause they did not want to make it look like a Led Zeppelin reunion. But for 90 % they play LZ music. Jones contributed a lot to LZ: black dog, no quarter, the crunch, in the light, in through the out door, thank you, since I've been loving you.. and many more!

Caught both 1979 Knebworth shows - by accident ! Sent off for tickets by post for the first one but these didn't arrived so when the second date was announced, went to Virgin Records in Liverpool and bought some tickets in person. The following day the tickets for the first show arrived in the post so I did what any normal person would do and went to both...

For those of us who never saw LED Zeppelin as a group because we were just babies and were lucky enough to catch either of the two tours or both that Page and Plant did in the 90's know how magical they were and only imagine how truly special it was for those who saw the original line up of LED ZEPPELIN.... I as most fans hold out hope but don't hold my breath on any Reunion TOUR and have accepted the fact that the two tours in the 90's are as close as we will ever come to seeing a Zeppelin Reunion of sorts.... The Un Leaded tour I was thankful that I got to go with my dad who only told me stories about seeing Led Zeppelin in the 70's

I love the Page and Plant tours, it has some of Plants best post-73 moments, and Page's best post-75 moments. Plant was having a slightly off night here vocally, but listen to the concert a few nights later 2-17-96 in Nogoya, even the last song Rock and Roll he is going for every note and hitting them with force and confidence. Page was really good at all of these shows, some shows he stood apart due to using a better tone and being less sloppy. The 98 shows were awesome as well, it was really a shame they cut out, but I felt at the same time it was a good way to end Zeps legacy as Plant may have had some vocal issues we didn't know about, listen to him belt out the high notes in the 98 shows versus his post 2000 shows where he really had to cut down his vocal range. Save for the 2007 Zep reunion, he REALLY gave it his all and kicked some serious ass that night, he more than made up for Jimmys safe playing in that show.
@GuerrillaGuitar
@GuerrillaGuitar 7 жыл бұрын
I saw Robert Last year and still has this same range,I would love a Zep reunion! And i Really like how,in these tours,he tried to reach the highest notes he could instead of holding back,like he did after the vocal surgery 1974..especially in rock n roll!
@donnievick3076
@donnievick3076 7 жыл бұрын
Sorry, but Plant does not have the same range as he did in the early 70's, not even close. Not knocking him at all, he adapts well, because he's a pro, but he'd even tell you he can't.
@Clearanceman2
@Clearanceman2 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah more recently he just changed the range which works great.. Back in 1996 he was still trying to hit the notes. Smoking cigarettes didn't help any either.

Mohamed Abdel Wahab, a legendary Egyptian musician. Zeppelin were heavily influenced by Egyptian music and Plant specifically mentioned that his vocal histrionics were inspired by the Egyptian songstress Umm Kulthum, who had a 7 octave vocal range and was admired by musicians as varied as Bob Dylan, U2, Peter Gabriel and of course Zeppelin.

This version of Custard Pie definitely blows the studio version away by a country mile. At the time when it was originally recorded in '74 for Physical Graffiti, Plant just had surgery on his vocal chords and of course he always smoked like a chimney which made his voice very hoarse especially everytime he tried to sing the high notes.
