Led Zeppelin formed in 1968 and went on to become one of the most influential, innovative, and successful groups in modern music, having sold more than 300 million albums worldwide. The band rose from the ashes of The Yardbirds, when Jimmy Page brought in John Bonham, John Paul Jones, and Robert Plant to tour as The New Yardbirds. In 1969, Led Zeppelin released its self-titled debut which was produced by Page, as were all the subsequent albums. It marked the beginning of a 12-year reign, during which the group was widely considered to be the biggest and most innovative rock band in the world.

Some might argue Metallica from 1983-1991 from "Kill Em' All" to yes even, 1991's The Black Metal, were one of the few bands from any era succeeding Zeppelin's 1980 breakup to release groundbreaking, fast-paced, innovative, slick, forward-thinking music that was so far ahead of 90% of rest of other bands of the era, excluding maybe U2, they were at least near Zep's level. Some music critics, insiders, writers for years labeled Metallica "Generation X's Led Zeppelin". Of course, while certainly Ulrich and Hetfield have praised Led Zeppelin's music on their own development, style, and music as an influence, Metallica's themes and aggressive, occult, macabre, often times cynical criticisms of organized religion, war, politics, corruption has far more to do with Black Sabbath. James Hetfield, Ulrich have admitted numerous times if Black Sabbath never existed, most of the successful 80's thrash, glam metal bands don't exist, either. Maybe quite a few punk bands from the late 70's influenced by Sabbath like the Ramones, Black Flag, the Misfits, and Henry Rollins never form or get involved in music.

He was probably scary, experimenting with drugs so frequently, and the dark arts. Clapton in my mind, could have given up on him, but maybe there was guilt there for giving him hard drugs. We are so fortunate they survived those times. Sorry to preach, just thinking about all Robert put up with. My favorites are Immigrant Song and Kashmir.

Damnit, unfortunately I feel like it was his best. It's such a shame that by '73 this version of Plant was forever gone. His time of fearlessly hitting soaring high notes was way too short-lived. I understand that he still ripped it up and to this day still sings great, but man, for me, there is no greater Zep era than when Plant was destroying unnaturally high registers like this. I can, however, see why it didn't last very long. That range was godlike. Unsustainable.

On August 12th, 1968, in a small basement at 39 Gerrard Street in London, England, Page, Plant, Jones & Bonham assembled and played together for the first time. All four were stunned by what happened the instant they began playing. As skilled musicians (to put it mildly), they immediately recognized that the melding of their individual talent yielded an immensely powerful chemistry. They had bottled lightning & they knew it. I'd wager that their faces probably resembled some of these overwhelmed kids. In all of rock's storied history, Led Zeppelin remain unequaled.

This is the best rendition of this banger, that low bass, epic, sounds unreal through a DAC…….. if it’s too loud you too old 💪💯

I will never forget getting a phone call from a guy in my French class calling me at home. This was in late winter or spring of 1969. He had two tickets to see Vanilla Fudge at the Baltimore Civic Center. Some band named Led Zeppelin was on the bill.By that time I had already heard them on the radio and on record. So I couldn't wait to get there!! Those guys blew the roof off of the place.Legendary and rightfully so..

@Kebax Kapak you really should try listening to Black Sabbath's debut and second album. They are almost equal to Led Zeppelin for me. but Black Sabbath's albums with Dio sucks in my opinion. Dio has an amazing voice but I don't know why his music is just boring.
