@@XcaptainXobliviousX well ye heard in the vid it took him 200 hours of work. A hour worth of work from a master craftsman like chris would be around 150 to 200 dollars in a normal company situation (for some perspective a machinist that does the programming for cnc machines is normally already at about 80 to 100 dollar a hour charge to a customer (that's not what the machinist takes home, it's what the company charges the customer)). So excluding materials that would already be at 30 to 40 thousand dollars in labor. Than add about a grand worth of raw stock (ye always charge around 1,5x of what the actually necessary raw stock is going to be to cover for when ye make a mistake and have to re make a part), and about a grand worth of machine/tool ware + the little things here and there like some cutting oil, sand paper, polishing stuff, the chemicals to do the electro plating etc. so than ye are at a 32k to 42k cost. since it's a one of thing, all custom made it would put my money on that ye would be looking at a 35 to 45k price tag if ye would commission it

@@Max11Seven Remember that the labor cost to a customer isn't the take home pay of the person doing the work. My labor is billed at $140 per hour to customers and I sure as shit don't make anything anywhere close to that. Factor into that too the extraordinary and specialist skill of Chris, his charged labor rate could believably be $200 per hour.
@lordchickenhawk5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I figured the labor alone to be in the 40K range. If I can get $40 an hour working here in Australia as a fitter and turner then $200 an hour is mates rates for the range and quality of skills Clickspring has. Not just a great machinist with top notch hand skills but a graphic artist, engraver, videographer and research archeologist... with enough phys/chem etc to pull off flawless gold plate
@livedandletdie5 жыл бұрын
Max, Clickspring's hourly rate is somewhere between $20 and $50 that's just his salary part, so the labor isn't that much, at top $10'000 for this project, then there is the actual cost of such a rare item, and the fact that it isn't mass produced, even if say the materials only top at $600 then on top with the $10000 for the labor then you could add the double for insurances and company tax and then you need to probably double that again for profit and then you could probably double it again for just the uniqueness of it all, and if Chris the owner Ramsay dies then the price of the item if ever on an auction would skyrocket even more, so the item is worth at minimum $40'000 and then if auctioned could go for up to $4 million roughly so it's probably somewhere around 20% of the auction value in actual value so roughly $800K.

One can only talk so much about the press, he got the necessary points out of the way and seemed to appreciate it. Besides the clickspring Chris probably made it cause he loves the art of creating such things, not for Ramsey to go on and on about it.

He obviously loves what he does to make a product for 200 hrs for someone he doesn’t even know. His enjoyment is creating the product, not the accolades and praise from Mr. Ramsay.

he paid $50k for it, got a move fast to make the cash

I was pretty puzzled by that too. Couldn't dedicate a video to just that thing? Seemed a fairly passionless response as well lol. If someone made an heirloom piece like that for me I'd be utterly stunned.

So so glad I happened upon your video. Couple hours ago I watched Chris's video building the card press. A beautiful work of art or just wasn't sure what a card press was. Thank you very much for explaining it to me. Two thumbs up.

chris thats not a mini dremel. Its hammer and chisel, the vibrating sound is just the hammering sped up. Clickspring is a handmaking fanatic. Im just dying at the dedication

Wow, that is exactly what you said it was. “Fine art”. Amazing skills, and the end result is fantastic!

I'm disappointed he didn't dedicate an entire video to clickspring's masterpiece, I mean why should those junk games be included in the same video?

As far as I know, Chris is not a professional, but he's definitely a master. He does this stuff just for fun.
