Here with Mark Bendler from Kodiak Truck in North Prairie Wisconsin to document building a custom trac rite axle unit for a classic body style chevy. This is using the AAM axle housing with a dodge trac rite style carrier instead of the factory govlock. Also changing it over from a 2 piece to a once piece driveshaft.

When ordering a new shaft, does it have to be from '15 DUALLY or does a signle rear wheel work as well?

The receipt that you showed with the part numbers for the drive shaft and rear yoke, was that for your crew cab long bed 4x4? That's what I need. I have the same truck as you.

So when you get the diff to lock what makes it unlock? I heard you say on black ice to hold the brake a bit to get it locked but when will it unlock as soon as you let go of the brakes?

No, just like any other posi, it would release when the torque is taken away, so as soon as you let off the gas.

There isn't a lot of info out on these Tracrite differentials. I am thinking about getting one for offroad use but I'm hesitant because they are not a true "locker." How do they work for that application as opposed to a mechanical locker?

Can we get a parts list for those do it yourselfers out here? My second g80 in 3 years is toast and this is the route I'm going but cant find much online and no part numbers. Thank you

@ kodiak truck, I know you said all the rebuilds are custom and sorry to come across so bluntly but what is the ballpark price for this rebuild? Trying to plan accordingly. Thanks and keep up the great work.

if we install a new AAM ring and pinion, trac rite, bearings and the alloy shafts were around 3000-3200.

@@RustbeltMechanic done anything to the front diff? Im either going to cram a 2500 diff in my 1500 or buy a 2500. Because there are lockers available for the 9.25 front diff 😊

major thing is cost. the factory aam is good in my opinion to 800 ish HP. no need to spend more for the detriot version when these work just as good. if it was a truck with a built motor i might use the detriot version depending upon final HP numbers. Other wise if there going to 38 spline axle we know our options then. thanks

i just got 5 trac rites in today. we do not sell just the units only complete rears due to the fact we go through them so much and aam has been running behind on supplying them.

It is juvenile behavior to remove all emission off the truck and spend all kinds of money on the truck just to blow out black smoke and do line lock burn outs. That truck wouldn't even pass state inspection with rotted out rocker panels and cab corners. It also looks like it has tons of rust under the truck.

That truck in this video is a 2001 LB7, it is all pre emissions. This truck is also being made a purpose race truck, so burnouts and going fast is a requirement.
