Great work, Joe! That old time box car looks way better, and it was interesting to see how you used dry transfers for the numbers, which turned out amazing!

Nice work atjoe!! After overcoming the dry transfer and decal mishaps this car turned out very nice. I like the addition of the metal wheels and knuckle couplers. For the record I've never been able to master applying dry transfers and have ruined my share of decals as well.

Thank you very much Sir John 👍😎 One of my favorite comments left on your blog was you and Ralph talking about having a “Solvaset” moment with a project. Anyone that has used it can completely understand the term 😆 I thought it would be fun to share a Solvaset moment in the video. I’ve never had really good luck with the dry transfers either. This was my third project using them and got overconfident. I saw a video from England on how to use them in a very unique way. I’m working on a project to try the technique out. Video to follow. 🚂

I recall an article from a Model Railroader magazine in the 1980s that showed using Soft Scrub cleanser to remove lettering while keeping the car's paint intact.

Don't be too hard on yourself. We all make mistakes and that's how we learn. Surely you could have kept the black roof and orange colour scheme. Why didn't you just change the letters? Then again, brown is a nice colour too. I have a Bachmann brown Ore Car and a red-brown small caboose, to go with my American steamy Frisky the Disneyland Engine and her pair of Disneyland Coaches.

Thanks Kelly for checking out the video 👍😎 I was wanting to show everyone the good and the ugly parts to the project. It wasn’t what I had planned to do, but it turned out very satisfying in the end 🤠 I like the Orange and black scheme and the side by side comparison boxcar is my very first HO boxcar. I’ll never change that one. 😉 Speaking of box vans, I got my Happy Birthday Van from the UK on my Birthday. That was a really nice surprise 😎 I like the looks of your Disney steamie set. Reminds me of the one that runs through Frontier Land 🤠🚂

@@atjoe1972 - The original orange color looks more like what would have been used on a refrigerator car. The "Boxcar Red" was universally used as the paint could be made by a car shop with clay as the pigment.

I hate to be the party pooper after all the praises you have gotten. Looking at the before and after shot, I liked the before. Your finished job looks a little cruddy. Sorry.
@atjoe1972
@atjoe1972 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate the feedback, there’s always room for improvement. For myself, the before looks slightly garish and not prototypical for the era. The 1890’s scheme I went with is a bit simple and maybe even crude, but does represent an actual paint scheme. Thanks for checking out the video 👍🚂

@@atjoe1972 Joe: please accept my apology, I was not paying attention to what you were trying to achieve. I was thinking of restoration but didn't know to what. Thank you for replying to my comment which grabbed my attention and actually learned something about my new " always desired" hobby. I have purchased few pieces of n scale models and hopping start building my own and that's how I came across your project. Anyway Good luck with your work and I hope you accept my apology.

Oh no worries 😉 I get comments from collectors from time to time that don’t approve of my customizing a vintage train item 😎🚂 I hope you can get some inspiration and ideas from my channel. I do have a few N scale videos mixed in there. Feel free to stop by and ask questions that you might have. I hope you can get your layout started👍 Thanks for the clarification and no hard feelings 😉😊@@utb4itub
