To put in perspective, this setup is hitting the panel with about 58% more force than an Active 2.3, and 38% more force than 2 Ryobis in parallel. This is overkill and I’m all for it 😅. Jeff I’m glad you got the unloader. I would probably say that with the TSS, leave it on there. It acts as a redundant safety in the event the TSS fails and the pump continues to run.

What did you use to accurately calculate that this unit is hitting the panel with 58% more force than the active 2.3? Also, curious to know how certain variables when testing for panel impact are factored in or changes the results. Wouldn’t someone with the 2.3 just be able to stand a couples inches closer to remove the difference?

It’s an equation from the waterjet cutting industry. Impact Force = .052 x Flowrate x sqrt(Pressure) I tried this myself against a kitchen scale and it was surprisingly close! The reason I used percentage is because the actual calculated force might not be correct, but the numbers follow the same curve. When I did the test, I held the nozzle almost directly against the scale.

@ thanks for sharing this info. I really would love to know the results you would have gotten if could have conducted the test from a further distance to see the just how different the results would have been for a more practical detailing wash situation. I might have to try something like this out. Thanks again for sharing.

@ Of course 👍 I’d love to test more but I don’t have a bunch of these washers lying around 🤣 so I put some reliance on the math.

@@StevePierson123 gotcha. I can see why you chose to go that route. When I first bought my mosmatic gun and wand setup from their website they broke down and explained how they measured a pw’s performance and it was based off of cu which is why I chose to use that method.

Very interesting project but I don’t really think the benefits we would get are really worth it when you weigh everything out. At the end of the day we might be saving maybe a minute at most of rinse time? Maybe? 3gpm just seems like a waste of water unless you’re a commercial pw business. But like I first mentioned I always think it’s cool when people are able to work on projects like this and build something they are able to use themselves

it would be an interesting experiment to do on a water reclamation mat... I found that i was moving faster around the car and not running the PW as long, so i wonder if the difference is not as much as we think.

@@improvedgarageI was trying to calculate that the other day. For me, it was something like 1.25gpm X 10min = 12.5 gallons. 12.5 gallons divided by 2.5gpm = 5 min. So to use less water, I would have to rinse in LESS than half the time. I'm falling back on the greater enjoyment of the higher GPM instead of claiming less water usage. There is definitely a time savings aspect. As you pointed out when rinsing the roof... so much better to spray it all from one side and not have to circle back to re-rinse any over spray from trying to rinse half and half.

@@AMI_Detail the amount of time you would save would be very minor and nowhere near half the time. On average I would say the time saved might be 20-30 seconds at most? The best application where we would see a difference are for jobs a commercial pw cleaning business would be tasked to do unless you’re cleaning barn finds all day.

I had to add a wand due to the power and flow. Especially when rinsing the wheels, the kick back would get me soaked 😂

So... one cool thing about running my Dual Ryobi setup is having the option to only use one. This works great when I'm on my detailing stool right next to a wheel. I go with a 25040 (25 deg - 4.0 orifice) which drops the pressure to 500psi. Let's see... for another $150, I could go for a Tri-Ryobi setup and push around 3.5gpm. Kinda tempting... but getting even more impractical than having two hanging on the wall.

Im running 1.35 orifices on my foam cannons, and they definitely dilute at a higher rate. I'm going to have to hog out the metering tips on the Griots foam canons to get a 2% pir again, but i haven't dotten around to it yet. Also, i think you'll end up with the 6.5 as thats the nozzle im using to get around 1100 psi.

I love it... hog out the metering tip... I measured the Pink tip at 0.017" - Purple at 0.019" - Aqua at 0.022". In my system, the Pink is around 1% PIR and the Aqua is around 2% PIR, and the orifice difference is only 0.005". I have 0.030" carbide drills, but those little things are not fun... Especially in drilling cast iron. I'm guessing you would aim for 0.025" to bring PIR back to 2%. You might get by heating a pin gage and basically melting your way through the plastic. Just don't "borrow" one from my quality lab and pull a stunt like that... definitely would bring calibration into question.

Do you have any concerns about running your DI water thru that washer? While I know you have a tank to hold your water vs running it thru your DI system, do you have any concerns about your new washer blowing thru it to quick?

ah! Great question!! The PW draws more water but it seems im actually running it for less time and not using a ton more. That being said, im ready to revamp that too and i ordered a 55 gallon atmospheric tank that is square and tall to replace my 2 blue tanks. I should have about 25% more water with the new tank. After this wash i od shake the tanks like i normally do to check the level and found it to be close to normal.
