Clear packing tape, works pretty well

It probably would, I actually sent Rockler a Tweet because after this I modified the bit. I enlarged the the hole every so slightly and used a better quality bit. After this board I had made 2 more without issue, no clogging and very little tear-out.

Looks great! My one complaint of the rockler jig is the bit getting clogged like you mentioned. Drilling took forever but it’s so simple to use. I really like the jig, making these boards is a fun process. Good work mate!

Thanks for watching! I actually contacted them about it on Twitter. I drilled mine out using a 9/64th bit for the jig, and then replaced the bit with a new one and it worked a LOT better!

You may find that the template moves a little only using the to pegs to secure the template. You can make two wooden rails to clamp along side of the wood pinching the template to help keep the template from moving.

Good tip! I also drilled out the bit 1/64th larger and then used my own drill bit on the inside. It completely fixed the binding issue that I was having.
@ed-gw3ov Жыл бұрын
@@heyimamaker Thanks for that, I also have the binding drill shavings problem. I've also made my own pegs, squaring up different species of wood into like 1/4 x 1/4 inch strips. Then /sanding/shaping them to "peg" shape.

Nicest board I have seen. I used to play all the time, for hours on end , day after day. had not played in years but found that my som in law enjoys the game so I got the opportunity to play and between that and your video, I want to make one for myself!!! It is not on my project list... thanks a lot! LOL!!

Awesome! Some nice Hawaiian hardwood would look super nice! I had no idea how sneaky the game could be!

Would taping the board before drilling reduce tear out?

Awesome! I have a few nice pieces of wood I'm saving to make crib boards with.

Depending how you make the cribbage board, the Rocker jig does work decent. But I enlarged the hole in the cantering bit to 9/64th and then used a new 1/8th bit. The new bit caused less tear-out in figured wood and the enlarged hole in the cantering bit prevents it from getting clogged up.

That is a cool template you used and a great looking board!

Thanks Grant! The template was really helpful, the drill bit is not the best but I'm sure it could be modified a bit.

This would be a perfect use case for a CNC 🤣

Wondering what you used as a finish?

I use Tung oil, for basically everything. I think it looks nice and is super easy to apply.

Very nice. What was the glue you used for holes and cracks?
@heyimamaker2 жыл бұрын
This specific CA glue is a local store brand, but more recently I have been using Starbond. If I had it at the time I made this cribbage board I would have used their dark CA glue.
@clarkriccobuono39032 жыл бұрын
@@heyimamaker ca glue? I will check Starbond
@heyimamaker2 жыл бұрын
@@clarkriccobuono3903 CA is the generic name for super glue. It stands for Cyanoacrylates. Starbond is another brand, but it's also got a lot of thicknesses, and times for curing which is nice to have.
