I'm not liking a lot of what went on here. Rather than blindly complain, lets see how this drive shaft "works". Yes, I have installed a bad drive shaft so I know how accurate it needs to be. I'm predicting a massive loss of dental filings on this one. Hopefully, I'm full of crap.

What's funny is all the people yelling "he's going to use new U joints" and he says several times "I don't see nothing wrong with these. What's truly sad though... He's building that deathtrap of a car for his chick. She'll be lucky to survive the first pass. Hell maybe he has a life insurance policy on her and this is all an elaborate plan to finance more deathtraps

For $200 you can drop off the parts, have the work done by a professional, he will install the parts and balance it and not bugger up the u-joints, and that includes the pipe. I will be surprised if it’s the correct length. I am impressed watching Chad do custom body work, but his mechanical not so much. I think today he needed one ore helper, Larry, Curly, And Moe

@yard farmer Chad definitely has some creative artistic ability. I think the most important thing here is both Chad and Jolene appear to be good people. His lack of ability is more than made up by his enthusiasm. Chad’s creative artistic ability is impressive. All the rest is pure entertainment, including the bodywork. I doubt you’ll ever see these two cars on the road so a decent drive shaft may never be needed. Good people with an A+ for enthusiasm and effort. I’m happy that it’s paying off for them.

Still need a lathe and measuring tool to make sure its centered and not wobbly, Lathe to take a little off the inside of the yoke and slide down on pipe then weld it. Or lathe to make sure both driveshaft and yoke are flat and weld together if the same size.

I wish I saw this video the day before you did actually torched it. You were working with two different diameters. A Vernier micrometer would have given you the exact amount you were off. You could have placed the drive shaft tube in a metal lathe and turned down the inside diameter so you would have had a nice press fit without the torch and without the banging. Any time you hit metal with a heavy hammer like that, the metal will distort/ mushroom. The press fit would have been much easier, without any distortion. As you said, you have done this many times, so it will probably work fine at low speeds. The faster you go in the vehicle, the greater the vibration from the wobble in the drive shaft will be, unless you have it balanced. Good luck Chad and Jolene!!! By the way, Jim talks a lot, but he has a good engineering mind. Yes he can over do it, but he has some real good ideas, just maybe too many in the moment!

Just watched this episode , chad needs to listen to Jim more and the first thing he needs to do is throw that ball pein hammer as far away as possible . Use a bigger hammer ( soft steel ) and hit it less ! I can guarantee you’ve wrecked the yoke and the u joint will not stay tight . Also GET Some GLOVES ! . For $50 bucks the machine shop would have probably put it together for you properly

Jolene needs to measure the yoke and see if it’s even possible to fit inside of the pipe. I wouldn’t be surprised if he took a grinder to the parts in an effort to get them to fit. He is so creative. He comes up with solutions even if there is no problem. I hope we get to see more of his creations soon.

A trick to keep the U joints in phase, is to put the drive line in the vice and level it, and level the first U joint, then level the second U joint as you are installing it, I have done this many times and its always in phase and purfectly install, I did my first one on my lawn in the yard for my old studebaker.

I'm from Namibia in Africa. What you are up to is called bush mechanics here. I'm not sure what the plan is for this drive shaft, but it might just be a means of getting you home or to the nearest town or workshop. I would love to know what your thoughts are on how to get it true and balanced? I know the answer is a big enough lathe, but that's not always an option out on a farm or in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully we'll get a better picture in another video on the rest of your plan.
