This wood combo looks really nice! Nice shape too. Thanks for the video of the build process.

Nice guitar man, for future reference don't drill pilot holes for the bridge, the bit has no stability and grabs the wood thats why you got tear out. Just use an punch or awl to mark the hole and use high quality brad point bits and that won't happen your holes will be super clean.

That neck is something special. The body shape and finish have a really enjoyable look. Custom truss rod cover and matching back plate is a nice look. I like your style. Job well done. I want to make wood pickup covers and knobs for it.
@johnchase85105 жыл бұрын
Nice job, you have come a long way from your first build! A few tricks to add to your bag... When drilling veneer, or through lacquer/poly... Run the bit in reverse till you get through the surface. String grounds on the tailpiece will give you a larger ground plane. Lining up tuners, if you want them straight, is easier with a small straight edge nudged against them. When installing a bolt-on neck, tune to pitch, loosen the screws a turn, rap the headstock at the top with a rubber mallet to seat the neck tight in the pocket. You may hear a slight crack as the neck jumps forward in the pocket, seating up tight against the body. This improves sustain, and stabilizes the joint. One last thing, lol... You might find a rabbet bit and bearing set useful for making those electronic cavity cuts. However, you should use a little larger router than the Colt. A 1-1/2 to 2 horse machine would do nicely for this. Keep making dust, and Happy New Year!

I'm a lead guitarist for 42 years, this looks good, symmetric etc. I would like to see it strapped on while standing to see how it balances across your shoulder, if its neck heavy or body heavy. A few quality lead licks on each pu/clean/dist. setting would also be nice to hear.

Very nice result. My only criticism is the back carve for the electrical. May want to make a template to keep that clean and straight. Even if it's the back, should have the same level of attention as the front.

Bro , I've watched you make two guitars and I have to say you have done a fantastic job and your own design is pretty cool , I love the natural wood grain on a guitar , I have 8 . 4 acoustic ( one is a 12 string ) and 4 electric , only 3 are colored , the natural wood grain looks so good , anyhow ,,,badass guitar bro , great job ,, the body design looks like Les Paul , S G , half b c rich warlock and moking bird ,,damn cuz that's pretty cool

Nice work man you’ve come a long way and your designs are the shit. Just put away that power drill when you’re screwing in the neck, makes me cringe every time, just do that by hand. Get some guide blocks for when you can’t fit things in the press or just make some on the press to make sure you stay square. Keep at it man you’re doing some cool shit.

Thank you for all the build videos. Can get enough. Planning my first, from scratch build. Since you have been purchasing your necks, how are you calculating the depth of your neck pocket? Did you need to incorporate a neck angle to use the tune-o-matic bridge?
@OrbitalGuitars5 жыл бұрын
I calculate the depth of the neck pocket by measuring the heel of the neck at the base where the fretboard overhangs the end, then measure down that same distance from the top of the body and make a pencil mark, which I then use to set the depth on the drill press. After that I drill just short of the mark that I made, then make the pocket deeper as necessary depending on how the neck sits during test fits. As for the break angle, the routing template that I used has a 2-3 degree angle built into it for tunematic bridges.

Great work. I would strongly suggest using a real soldering and not a soldering gun. A 30 - 40 watt iron would be good. You need to heat the surface of the control or lug first, then touch the solder to it. Let the heat from the control or lug melt the solder, not the iron itself. That is how to get a real good solder connection. But, as I said, get a real soldering. You don't want to have solder connections come loose on you after such great work.
@OrbitalGuitars6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I did actually just get a regular soldering iron, but did not know about heating the surface first, will definitely start doing that.

cutout horn is too long and obtrusive....horrible job on the cavities...you put the bridge on backwards...screws face towards the pickups, not the tail stop.
@OrbitalGuitars5 жыл бұрын
The bridge is not on backwards, but even if it was, turning a tunematic bridge around takes all of 2 minutes, most of which is from loosening the strings, this is literally a complaint about nothing. As for the rest, these complaints are entirely subjective opinion. But go make your own, I'm sure it will be perfect and no one will be able to complain about it in any way. Make a video out of it, kick my video's ass. I'll wait.
