Time to get nerdy! As the new studio and the rest of the house are shaping up, its time to focus on setting up my power outlets and AV solutions just the way I want. I want outlets easy to access for any studio lighting setup I may come up with, and I want to connect my studio to my Mac Pro in my upstairs office. But how can we pull this off? Ethernet cable to the rescue!

Sweet update. I'm sure you've gotten a lot further since then. You could save tons of cable routing by using a single cat6 cable to connect both the office and studio with two ethernet switches (one for each end). I would recommend getting a PoE switch for the studio connection to power PoE devices (maybe a couple of E2C cameras). Depending on your distance of running cable, this may or may not be cheaper but will be definitely cleaner.

Interesting idea! We have definitely come a long way since this last update. Unfortunately my AV guy has been super busy with the election and hasn't been able to complete the wiring connections. I'm so ready!

Don't worry, the studio is not finished yet! I legit shot the ending segment just today! We are getting very close tho. Only about a month to go. I don't have any spare shirts, but I should find a better supplier to sell them!

Thanks for showing the progress of your studio! Looks like it is coming along well. With the G7 as your overhead, are you relying on autofocus or using a large depth of field?

I am usually able to set the focus prior to recording it works pretty well. I may end up replacing the G&, so I might need to find a better solution!

I have been using Monoprice HDMI over Cat6 converters for about 5 years. Only need to power one end, as it has POE as well. Also use them for my live production when out doing IMAG and shows. Really work well!!! Be careful running audio over LAN that way if you have power nearby, the shielding is missing that goes over the usual audio cables. There is pretty inexpensive THIN audio cable that works too and would be smaller for 3 than CAT5/6 but would cost a little more. Great video, can't wait to see the finished product!!

According to my research, as long as it’s shielded, and not running very close and parallel to electrical, C6 shielded should reject inference quite well. That’s what I’m banking on!

Sweet. I can't wait until we get some kind of reliable WiFi-like AC power that doesn't fry our brains. Goodbye electrical cords.

I know! Wireless power everywhere! Just make sure to carry dryer sheets in your pockets to avoid the static headaches! 🤣

Hey man, I got like 1 or 2 questions for my recording studio / house build, if you would be so kind to help.... I currently only have two more breakers available. I was thinking of wiring the small refrigerator, screen projector, lights, and Misc outlets on one. Then wire 3 receptacles for the studio area (guitar amps, desktop computer, studio monitors + subwoofer, and Rackmount gear) on the other Breaker. This would probably reduce any interference. So my question is, on the 3 outlets for studio use....Should I "Home Run" each outlet i.e. Run an Individual wire from each outlet to the box? And is a 20Amp breaker / 12/3 awg wire enough for all the previously mentioned studio stuff?

Unfortunately I am not an electrician and won't be able to give you an answer on that. While I did all the layout planning for the electrical, our electricians did all the heavy lifting and made sure everything is safe. I would consult an electrician if you can.

Question is it true the longer the cable more latency you get? I think I’ve seen that in a Linus tech tips video and I’m talking about HDMI cables I don’t know I guess we have to see when you finish your project oh HDMI over ethernet that smart you’re a smart guy it’s so cool how you’re able to recover after a fire and I still haven’t recovered after I see my gear was stolen about maybe a month or so after your fire wow that sucks I haven’t gotten a new piece equipment for a long time I’m stuck with the used T3 I right now with the kit lens

So sorry you haven't been able to start shrining back from the theft. Thats terrible. As for the HDMI, I don't know if it has more latency, but it is susceptible to weak signals and dropouts over longer runs.
