I wish there were more left hand numpad options. I know there are a few off the shelf available, just wish there were a bigger market for them. Not pulling your hand off the mouse while using the numpad is a game changer and a huge time saver. Love the 96 layout though.

It’s called the Tenet 70 from Metakey. Or TKC Candybar. Also the Kangaroo board is a full size southpaw board AND it’s entirely made of brass. There’s plenty custom and in stock options 😅

I really love the 1800 layout. I have a Keychron Q5 on my desk right now and it feels like the best layout IMO. Slightly smaller footprint than full size but I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
@DanH112 жыл бұрын
I've been using the Q5 as my daily driver for a while now and quite like it. Kept experimenting with 75% and 65% layouts several times, but continually went back to this 96%/1800 layout. The only thing that bugs me about the Q5, and the reason why I feel like I haven't quite found my "endgame" yet, is the damn 0-key on the Q5's numpad. I often seem to miss it due to it's smaller 1u sizing. I may just bite the bullet and invest in a high quality stand-alone numpad to pair with some premium 65% keeb, and then take the time to brute force relearn numpad utilization via my left-hand. In the end, it's probably the most efficient layout anyways.

My whole reason for wanting/needing to maintain my numpad is simple, keybinds. I know when it comes to binds in windows and other productivity applications that layering with ctrl or alt is not that big a deal, but in games like EFT, Arma, GTA etc it removes a mountain of frustration to simply tap num4 instead of having to remember numerous key combinations to achieve regular commands.

I recently got a Q6 for my keyboard. While all these "cut down" options work for some people I am user that uses both the numpad and the home cluster all the time. I get that full size custom keyboards cost more because of all the extra switches/caps but really wish the makers would do 100%, so hard to find a good 100% keyboard in this space. Q6 is epic but more choice is better. At least this one steps outside the BS 60% sort of space :)
@DanH112 жыл бұрын
Having come from using the Q6 for a good while, I found that I really don't miss having those dedicated keys on slightly cut-down options like this. I'm using a Q5 now and I simply programmed PgUp and Home to the same key. Pressing it normally pages up, pressing it with the Fn key goes full home. Similar solution for PgDn/End, as well as several other "missing" keys. The Fn key is right there close to them, so I can press both with the same hand and the amount of time taken to perform is effectively the same in practice. The learning curve was quick, and I can't really see going back to a full size anymore, even though the majority of my life I'd used full size exclusively.
@Jayowsky Жыл бұрын
Yes, it is insane for me that "cut-down" version includes Page Up/Down and only Home for some reason. Where is End key? On the top right of numpad, okay crazy person, do your thing. No Insert/Delete? Okay, you need to be institutionalized :D
@DanH112 жыл бұрын
Keychron Q5 owner here that mostly loves my keyboard. Big thing here that has me regretting that I missed this Group Buy? That full-sized Zero key on the numpad. If you're someone who cares about retaining the numpad on your keeb, you know how important it is to have that. If I could go back in time and buy this instead of the Q5, I would. It's not that the Q5 is bad, it's *spectacular* in fact, but it's just simply for that sizing. It's so difficult to get used to using that reduced sizing. I am almost certainly going to buy this Wind x98 next time it's available.

Not sure if it's your mic or something with your recording set up, but for some reason I feel like most of the keyboards reviewed on this channel share a very similar sound. When looking at other wind98 reviews, the spacebar noticeably pops more and the sound is "better" subjectively. I can't quite place the sound or describe it, but the word "thin" comes to mind.

I've got a steel series apex 7 brown full sized keyboard for productivity, which would be prefect it if it was hot-swappable (I also have an apex pro tkl for gaming). Basically I'm waiting for any full-sized keyboard with a knob that's also hot swap, and has programmable RGB* , and if it could have a pass-through usb port, that would be a nice bonus. *I ONLY use static color for rgb with the modifier keys a different color, as this aids in productivity. I am not at all interested in a keyboard that constantly vomits rainbows at me.

5:03 you say it runs QMK and VIA. Yet Windstudio do not publish the source - since QMK is GNU-2 isn't there a share alike condition? Also VIA? The VIA json has vendor ID of 0xFEED - the one vendor ID that The VIA project does not accept in it's own repos. Come on man! One cannot claim open source support and not be open source.
@Andy-rp1kd2 жыл бұрын
In order for a board to be supported by VIA, it has to be in the QMK repo, but since they're going the route of providing you only the .hex file and JSON used for VIA, that too is in violation of their GPL, but even then they (the QMK team) can't do anything about it since some vendors don't care about open source.

All Creams sound horrible in your ear, absolutely vile. But put them in a board and it actually doesn't matter. The worst thing Creams do is start binding if you try to use them dry for too long. It's a really light bind, you can always still force the key but the feel is so annoying. After lubing and reinstalling them they remain one of my favorites. But I think it's fair to say their original mission as "self-lubing" switches failed horrifically.
