More mouse space and less space between your keyboard hand and mouse hand. It's more comfortable like that for some people. But I'd rather have a number pad myself

Because most people don't use a numpad outside of Excel, and most people have no reason to ever use Excel. It's also worse ergonomically, as it forces your mouse hand to the right. But if you're that butt hurt about it, they have the Keychron Q6 Max which is full size and they also have the Q0 Max, which is a separate num pad you can move out of the way when you aren't using it.

The main issue with the GMMK Pro isn't thats its just bad, it can be made better, but that its "bad" for the price, it is overly expensive and many cheaper keyboards get much better sound out for a much cheaper price

i bought the womier sk71 based on your recommendation and its been great. something that really surprised me about this keyboard is just how solid the wireless 2.4gh performance is. the battery life goes over a week without needing a charge (at least in my experience using it with gaming) and the wireless performance has no complaints from me.

I've been really into building clacky boards lately, but I still absolutely love deep, foamy boards. I love having the option to choose a no foam build, full foam, or everything in between on a daily basis. I'm pretty excited to get in on the WS Freya group buy. I love my modded ROG Azoth. I used lubed and filmed Morandis, some Keychron DS PBT keycaps, replaced the steel plate and silicone plate "foam" with a PC plate and poron/ipxe PCB and plate foams from AliExpress. I also added two layers of painters tape and removed the thick silicone filler inside the case. Some people won't understand doing so much to a "gamer" board instead of just buying a better board, but I have a 1 of 1 Azoth that sounds and feels exactly how I want it to, and I wouldn't trade it for any other keeb.

Does the PCB on this Asus board have Hotswap capability for putting your own switches in? (I saw an Amazon review with someone who put some Gateron switches on it....but he never mentioned if he took the whole thing apart and desoldered the spacebar and modifier key switches and then resoldered the new Gate yellow switches)

@@phlooke Yup yup, it's a hot swap PCB. You can even use pcb-mount stabs if you want, but the stock ones are hella smooth already, even without any tuning.

Steer clear of the BlackWidow V4 X. After only a few months my A and D keys are not functioning properly. A seems to not register every key press and sometimes doesn't register at all. The D key double-types as well as the space bar. Currently typing on my 8 year old Blackwidow V1 as I can't put up with the issues the V4 X has. Going to switch to Ducky and hopefully never look back.

There is no flagship keyboard on the market that has hot swappable switches, full size, multimedia keys, a volume roller or knob and all that under 200 dollar. That would be my dream keyboard. Something like a Razer Huntsman just in a hot swappable version.

Keychron have seriously stepped up their game with the Q Max series. I got the Q2 Max. The only issue I had was key chatter on the spacebar which I fixed with a heavier switch.

It'll be interesting to see how HE switches develop. The gateron Jades are supposed to have tighter tolerances and close off the bottom portion so the magnet isn't exposed.

New budget king: Ajazz AK820. $50-60 bucks, fully built, sounds amazing right out of the box. I highly recommend. Another budget aluminum diy is the Leobog Hi75 that needs no mods. It's truly mind blowing what is coming out now for these low prices. When I started in the hobby, buying an RK61 for $50 was the budget go-to, but it was all plastic with no foams and required heavily modding it before it was any good. I love what's happening right now in the hobby!!

[[READ IF FROM THE EU]] I bought a Zoom 75 a month ago after watching your video about it. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the last white standard edition cases (the special edition are just gone from stock sadly) and I built it following your recommendation, which means Morandis. It was my first custom keyboard and building it took me like 6 hours and I didn't even lube the switches. I will some day, but not for now. It sounds amazing and all of the trial and error in the building process was kinda fun (once I managed to fix everything I had done wrong like screwing the stabs too tight, like my spacebar wouldn't come up at all). I'm not gonna lie though, if you live in the US the shipping and import taxes might be lower, but I live in Italy and I had to import the keyboard from China and the lubing kit from Kinetic Labs from the US since in EU we have legit no custom keyboard market; it was expensive, like capslock expensive. The build is fire, but it cost me a net of a little more of 500, give or take. In case someone from the EU is here reading this comment, be aware of the import fees. You won't pay just the vat, you'll pay a huge shipping fee and a customs fee for the import procedure (which is literally just one eMail). If you find a good barebone try and get everything you need shipped in one order or two at max. e.g. the Morandi are sold by Wuque and Meletrix is Wuque, but they are not in stock on their website and I had to buy them directly from Wuque which sucks since it's a completely separate order and shipping fee. It's all fun and games until a 60 euros order turns into 110 euros after shipping and customs fees ahahah (laughing the pain away). All considered tho, I'd do it again. The zoom is simply great and yh for 500 there is waaay better stuff out there, but that 500 would be a 800 after shipping it to my doorstep so I'm pretty satisfied.

Thnx to Hipyo I got a Monsgeek m1(w). With tape mod (2 layers electrical), force break mod, and fixing the golden parts on the sides with a little tape, this thing feels and sounds sooooo good. I also used the other included (black) stabilizers. It's my first custom keyboard, but I know I will use this for a long long time. Everytime I use it I'm surprised by how good it feels and sounds. It's like I use it for the first time. No ragrets, thnx Hipyo!

I dont think many manufacturers sell prebuilt keyboards with silent tactile switches. It would be better to just buy a barebones full size keyboard and buy your own silent tactile switches (boba u4, haimu whisper silent tactile, etc.), then slap your own keycaps on.

I bought a Redragon K530 Pro to start off. It was fine, but I wanted more customization for keymapping so I bought a Keychron K12 Pro for the QMK support. Replaced the guts with some YDMK Blank Milk Fog keycaps and some LTC Jerrzi Similar Red switches. Simple but a lot of fun and very pretty.

I bought the DingRat Malthus 65 based on your recommendation and its been great. Something that really surprised me about this keyboard is just how gloppy the nekko foam is! The battery life goes over a month without needing a charge (at least in my experience using it for playing Vietnamese dog simulators) and the trackball performance has no complaints from me.

Honestly I bought the TH80 prokit, that is just plate and case, the idea is combine this keyboard with the switches epomaker sea salt silent, and finally the GMK Norse keycaps, maybe I spend too much but I think the result will be fantastic and a possible really good keyboard. I've been really bummed with my Womier SK-71. The feel and look of the keyboard is fantastic, BUT the bluetooth and custom key assignments/software stopped working within a month of my purchase. I contacted support and they kinda just shrugged about it. Really frustrating! I'm saving my pennies now to buy a different keyboard, but I'll have a hard time not just sticking to Keychron and trusting the better support and quality control.

Heyo Hipyo, after about a week of spamming most if not all of your videos, among others, ive delved deep into the rabbit hole of custom keyboards, and the new magnetic switches...after wayyyyyyy too much research ive landed on and ordered the Boog75...basically the Zoom75 but with magnetic switches and capability. This is looking like my holy grail of keyboards with the ability to swap the switches out down the road with updated magnetic switches. Rapid trigger is actually very, very good for gaming, especially FPS or any really competitive game where releasing your switch faster gives you an advantage. No other company is close to Wooting when it comes to that, as of 2024.

So, I'm relatively new to mechanical keyboards but I've recently become obsessed with finding my perfect keyboard for a decent price. Now, my perfect keyboard is nearly impossible to get because I require a knob and would highly prefer full size and passthrough as well. Anyway, last year I got two wireless keyboards used/like new from amazon, an RK96 and a Redragon Horus K618, because I had no idea how I'd feel about them. Well I'm not a huge fan of the Redragon which kind of surprised me but I'm curious if you'd tried any version of the RK96 because I kinda love mine. It is however missing a few things I'd really like in a keyboard and I'm pretty sure they solved all of those concerns and then some with the RK S98. I actually had someone on a call tell me my keyboard sounded musical so you can imagine how proud I was. Great video, thank you!

Thoughts on the Boog 75? I am thinking of getting it as a pre-order, but cant decide. I want a low latency keyboard for FPS's and such and love the look of the rainy 75. The white Boog looks like god sent, do you think it would be worth the price?

I have a low profile, 75% keychron blue (K3 PRO) and absolutely love it! It replaced my full size keyboard and I never looked back

19:40 dude when I switched from being a laptop main to a desktop main I actually gave into the hype that was all around gaming keyboards… and for $200, I really couldn’t have been more disappointed. I specifically looked for something that wouldn’t feel like a $20 Dell office keyboard, and sure enough, it feels just like the junk your high school bought in bulk for the computer lab. The unnecessary key travel, the keycap wobbling, the spacebar that sounds like it could launch into space with that *ping!*. I’d rather rip off the bottom half of my old dead laptop for the membrane butterfly keys instead of this god-awful thing that sounds like the one obnoxious kid in your 7th grade class that wouldn’t stop drumming with empty plastic water bottles. I genuinely am self conscious any time I hit the spacebar. I look back to see if my family’s looking at me, I can tell they’re trying to ignore me by the concentrated looks on their faces. I feel so sorry for them. Mechanical keyboards are a disgrace to anybody who doesn’t live alone

I went like 2 days ago with akko monsgeek m1(75% aluminum) with akko silver v3 switches. I upgraded from some epomaker keyboard with gateron yellows pro v2 (plastic 65%). Rn I am waiting for lube to arrive because I didn’t know that there won’t be stabilizers in place, haha.

The fingering in this video is driving me crazy. "Y" with the left hand? Index and thumb only in the right hand? Try a split columnar keyboard to retrain. The ErgoDox EZ and Dygma Defy are in stock and hot swappable.

Choice is limited when you want non english-us layouts. Keychron got me covered. Love my q3 + q0 combo , although now i wish i had just bought the q5.

Hi Hipyo, I just bought the womier SK71 and I love it ! The sound is fcking amazing I wasn't expecting this. The only pb I have is that it doesn't have the F1-F12 row and I kinda need it. Do you know any keyboard that is exactly as amazing but 75% ? Thank you for everything you do, your work is very useful to all of us hipyo followers :D

Hi ! Actually I did, the leobog Hi-8 (or Hi-75 if you don't mind not having wireless) is quite great. I took switches from the womier since they are not sold in the market and the sound stock is very good

I bought a $23 60% keyboard on AliExpress, and in my ears it sounds like your favourite keyboard. But then, I only bought it to remind myself that I don't EVER want a mechanical keyboard again (yes, I grew up with both the Apple II+ clonky keys and the original IBM model M). My favourite right now is the Logitech MX Business, despite it weighing a TON. I'd love it even more if it was a TKL, because I've never used the numeric keypad in anything other than MS Flight Simulator. Also, if Logitech would make a M575 trackball with the silent tactile switches of the M590 mouse, that would be perfect. I had one of my old (13-14 years or so) wired trackballs go silent after a cleaning accident, but I never found out how. Also, the feedback disappeared, which is not really what I wanted.

I ordered a zoom65 kit in september and it showed up last week. Had a few build quality problems (cuts on the plate were wrong, missing screws/standoffs). Struggled with the build for a few days and ultimately shelved it because it was causing me too much anxiety (I paid 250 dollars for it). Meletrix's videos aren't that great and since they are a chinese company they are quite hard to get in touch with. All this to say: know what you are getting into before you buy the kit

5:40 I managed to pick up the Dustsilver K84 on sale with Gateron Reds for Christmas due to the Purple Lilac 75 being out of stock, and while I wish I got the D84 (the wireless version), this keyboard feels amazing for my first board. Only gripe with Dustsilver so far is their companion software, which only can do RGB or singular colors for effects, and feels fairly archaic for companion apps.

I got a set of keys to try, thought I liked Cherry MX Blue clicky keys, got a Corsair K70 with them. I also got the Keychron Q6 with Gateron G Pro Brown Switch pre lubed. Thought I would compare... Just go with the custom crowd's recommendations, the Keychron is so much better.

I'd been considering a Wooting keyboard (11:50) for a few months, but decided to look to see if there were any other magnetic key options since the Wooting keyboards felt like they were missing something and because I wanted it in white to match my pc build aesthetic. While it's currently at a pre-order for batch 4, expected to ship June/July, I went with the Flux keyboard. I've yet to see outside reviews of those who have purchased one to give their feedback on it though, so if you happen to buy one for testing I'd enjoy seeing your take on it.

Swapped out my £150 corsair that iv been using for the past 4 years (red switches) for a keychron k8 pro with browns and was only £74 with shipping! Blows the corsair one out of the water!

I wish I didn't watch this video. I was dead set on buying a Wooting 60HE. And now I'm just not sure anymore, with all these great choices. If anything, I now want a Zoom75. But the prices here in Sweden, barebone, is like $295. Damnit.. All I wanted was a keyboard that sounds and feel nice.

"Back in my day" there were cherry mx switches and bad switches xD I am no fanboy, simply ignorant tbh. I have a corsair k70 (brown MX switches) with the simple red backlight. I chose it for the mostly metal construction, but when I hit the keys they sound "shallow and cheap" compared to something like 05:36 in the video. What too look for for this "warm" "heavy" sound ?
