Just an idea on the painting process. I find both yellow and red cover much better with a white base coat first. I also always make it a habit to actually base all of the project in white anyways to act as a bit of a sealer. MDF is a very porous material and absorbs much of the product before coloring it. Your project looks great, however next time you paint on MDF give the white base coat a try. If you don't like it there's nothing lost. You will also see your paint colors are much more vibrant too. Anyways, GREAT Video and nice project

I've actually painted a lot of MDF with other projects with the scroll saw. The sides are typically what I have issues with and use primer filler for that BUT the sides were covered on this piece other than the outline so no primer. Less paint waste. :)

Can you tell me your settings for cutting 16mm MDF? Power Speed is your processing air assist on full power? Are you doing multible cutting passes? I‘ve got a Nova51 100W and i am struggling😅
@AleeshaDIY10 күн бұрын
10 speed/80power/air assist full blast/single pass/ is typically my thick mdf settings but i cant recall without watching the video if it was 5/8' or 1/4" mdf make sure the mdf isnt warped though because if it is, it'll always be a pain to cut

I have the exact Thunder 35/100w laser like you have and just start using it about 2 weeks ago. Are all the pieces from MDF cut? Also, the MDF that you use is so good that it looks so smooth when you paint on it. Where did you buy your MDF from? Also, what is the setting that you use to cut the MDF?

I obviously can't cut that thick of mdf, just trying to figure out where to try to keep my power levels max output. Oh, and the Lisa? Really cool!

@Ezanity Жыл бұрын
what air assist do you have cause that power laser should have cut through that quite easy. Also its wise to cut a small square first to dial in your cut power and speed.also where some parts cut through and others dont can sometimes be down to the quality of the wood(mainly plywood) and down to the levelness of your bed. gonna follow you though as i like supporting small creators.
@AleeshaDIY Жыл бұрын
it cut just fine once my laser settings were at the correct power. I had them changed from a prior project and didn't change it back for this by accident. But yes I have cut a test piece on every material so far as you mentioned.

You should be aware that you cannot sell items which violate the copyright of others. Disney owns the copyright to The Simpsons, and that includes images of Lisa Simpson. A woman selling items based on the copyrighted works of a country music singer was recently fined $500,000 for doing so, even though the total gross revenue of her Etsy store was less than $15,000. That said, you did a nice job of making a custom sign from Lisa's image.

For every mm thickness of would you use 10 watts of power, 3mm =30 watts, 4mm 40 watts etc. If you cut to fast with your speed it'll not cut through so you'll need to have a play at lowering your speed. I have a 60 watt laser and cut a lot of 3mm either wood or acrylic I use a spped of 12 and give a little more power of 35 watts.

Could you get that machine to cut a semi-shallow well into the back board the same shape as lisa so she just slots in all snug? Would ensure lisa is in position every time you make one and you wouldn't risk messing up the back board paint job with glue cause you could just glue inside of the well.
