This is awesome. I have the same boat and hate having my trolling motor in the back. Thank you for posting.

Where did you buy the aluminum like that?
@commonsensesolutions66623 жыл бұрын
JKV, I bought it at a local metal fabrication/supply house. I’ve seen this around the web too but I chose to just buy it locally. You could try to look them up if you like, perhaps they ship: Day Metal Products Brooksville, Florida

did you use lag bolts to bolt the angle strips to your boats front deck?
@commonsensesolutions66623 жыл бұрын
Hi Stan, yes I used lag bolts and also glued down the strips with a little 3M 4200 after sanding the paint down under them. It’s seen a bunch of use since installed and it’s still rock solid.

Did you anchor the lag bolts?
@commonsensesolutions66623 жыл бұрын
@@Paulhnkc No, just tightened them enough to where they would not Shear the aluminum and compromise their ability to hold solid. The 4200 and split washers also helps to keep them from loosening. I had considered using the butterfly style anchors and some other types, but then decided to use more bolts to distribute more evenly rather than having to make bigger holes and then dig out the foam underneath for the butterflies to be able to open up. If there was not foam up under the front deck I could’ve reached under and used washers and nuts. As of today everything is holding up very well and it gets plenty of use so the technique appears to be working well. thanks for your question!

I need to do something similar - mount a power drive to a 1236 alumacraft. Exactly what size/length/type of fasteners did you use to attach the brackets to the boat? Thanks, Bill.

Nice mount. I have the same boat as you and am wondering how you control the steering and speed as it is a tiller handle. The seating is too far to reach, and the front deck is very small. The mod v curves up sharply. Not great for standing. I’m 66 yrs old and balance is precarious. I would love this to work for me, as I don’t really want to spend twice as much on a remote powered trolling motor.

Hi Marty, I either sit on the front and steer it around or I’ll stand up there. I have a non-slip mat that I place up there when I stand.

What size angle iron is that your using I’ll have to order my parts offline and don’t wanna mess up the dimensions ?
@commonsensesolutions6662 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, I forget the length. I’ll go measure and reply first of the week. 👍🏻
@andrewwheeler2737 Жыл бұрын
@@commonsensesolutions6662 thanks, I know you mentioned it was 1/8”. But the length and width of angle iron would be helpful for ease of ordering online. I assume it’s something like 4x3 but I was curious what you utilized looks rlly nice good job.
@commonsensesolutions6662 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewwheeler2737 The 2 main ones are 2x3x18 and the 2 smaller ones that bolt to the boat are 1x1x18. Could have had these angles bent into a Z shape and used less material but I wanted to be able to remove everything except the small pieces that bolt to the boat since those are also glued down. I should have put these measurements in the vid, apologies. Live a learn. Hope your project turns out well 👍🏻

How did u bend your aluminum?
@commonsensesolutions6662 Жыл бұрын
I bought different size aluminum angle so it’s already bent. So I just had to cut it to the sizes I needed. Makes it easy.

Those are nice and work well. I have one on a smaller jon boat. For this boat I wanted something permanent and more sturdy. Thanks!
