Great job, Caleb! The fact that you customized it to be your all-time favorite locomotives makes it all the more special. - Ryan

Nice project and great result. Also a 'handy" layout-sized locomotive. A win all the way around.

Such a fun video recapping this build. I remember going back and forth over the bell cord being black or gray. Glad you stuck with the gray! Awesomeness!

Great looking engine, this ran on the Atlantic and Yadkin. The A&Y ran through what is now my front yard, and I figured out this engine ran through my front yard!!!
@calebeastertrains7 ай бұрын
Yessir! The A&Y tracks are about 5 minutes from me! Awesome to think how close this locomotive ran. That’s awesome you have the tracks in your backyard!
@Cmoore137 ай бұрын
Thanks!! The A&Y is my favorite railroad just because of the fact it ran through my town (forgot to mention the track bed is still there, and I’ve found spikes, ballast ties and there is a piece of track at the edge of the woods and a piece of track behind the neighbors barn.) I’m going to be working on a HO layout this summer and I’m gonna try and incorporate something of the A&Y.

Caleb you did a very fine job with this model! I always assumed it was a stock from the factory! Your decal work came rather well. Nail polish remover is the best way to take lettering off, as it doesn't damage the paint. Glad I could assist with the headlight!

Thank you man! Glad to hear I didn't mess up with the nail polish remover lol! And yes sir thank you again for helping make 542 what it is today!

Hey, wanted to share this with you. It’s from someone who works at the NCTM it regards 542’s whistle. “The whistle that was on it after restoration and dedication was the personal whistle of one of our volunteers. It was removed after the dedication because it was borrowed from him. I have our collections person checking, but we believe the 542's whistle may be one of the ones on display in the Roundhouse.”

Hey Caleb, Nice job on this custom conversion. It looks great. I think nostalgia and happy memories are two reasons we all still play with trains. Your layout looks awesome. Do you have a track plan you can post on KZbin? Like you, I'm limited to a 4 x 8, but a small layout can still accomplish a lot. Keep the videos coming, my friend!
@calebeastertrains7 ай бұрын
Thank you!! The track plan I used is called Anna’s Siding, amazing what can be accomplished in a 4x8, hope your layout turns out awesome man!
@tomschlitter15947 ай бұрын
@@calebeastertrains Thanks. I found it and I already have some of the pieces needed, so I now found a plan I'll be using. It's nice to know I can get this done for a really good price.

this is awesome! I'm currently kitbashing two lionel 0-8-0's into a couple of SOU Ks-1's. I also repainted another 0-8-0 into SOU 1894 which is the locomotive the NCTM traded to tanglewood park for 542.
@calebeastertrains6 ай бұрын
Awesome!!! And thank you!!

@@calebeastertrains I forgot to mention how kick ass your layout is. Mine is similar to yours but yours might be a bit longer and your scenery and buildings are way better and all my engines run conventionally.
@Cmoore137 ай бұрын
When the locomotive was restored, for a little bit the whistle was on (I went not to long ago and the whistle wasn’t on) when the whistle was on there was a little lever/rod that curved up to the whistle that connected to the whistle rope.
@calebeastertrains6 ай бұрын
Yessir! Wish they kept the whistle on it still, still awesome to see in person!
